What kind of shock oil goes in a 1934 shock?

If itīs not a newly rebuilt shock...mixing with whatever is in there now is more of a gamble...
And the condition of the shock...if itīs worn thicker oil...

Ford used glycerin, castor oil, and light mineral oil in who-die shocks of the period. There are several hydraulic oils that are about SAE 10 on the viscosity scale. ATF has conditioners that may help or hinder function. MIL-H-5606 aircraft hydraulic oil is also about SAE-10 and it's a basic mineral oil. If the shock is too easy to move then a thicker viscosity oil may be necessary. The wing shaft seal type might be what makes the difference. I don't know what the rebuilders use for seals. Houdaille used leather in the old ones so whatever goes in there has to be kind to whatever seal is in there. Glycerin was kind to leather seals so it was used a lot back in the day.
