Exclamation 2 Rear Hub Bolts Stripped?

So I pull the rear wheel on the passenger side of my 1930 coupe and when I try to put it back I find 2 hub bolts can no longer be tightened and I know it's not the lug nuts because I used those two on another wheel and they snugged up nicely. Never had this problem happen before. Is the only solution to pull the hub and have the 2 offending bolts pressed out and replaced? What also puzzles me is that the 2 hub bolts do not looked stripped.

They are just spinning on the drum. Stake them back in place with a cold chisel or get them spot welded.

Scratch a horizontal line on the stud head, try to tight nut and see if the line moves.

Please do not spot weld them. All it does is ruin a hub for life. Make the proper repair by swaging the stud in tight.

Hopefully it's not too late and you can still get the wheels off without the studs spinning i.e. the problem will only get worse.

yup - i had the same problem with my AA - one stud decided to spin. worst part is i wasn't sure if someone tricked me and put a left handed thread on the right side or something...

Hmm, I had several welded 18 years ago and the hub is still running good and true many thousands of miles later.

OK, I scribed the top of the hub bolts and tightened the lug nuts to the point where they spin loose. The hub bolts did not turn. It would appear that the hub bolts and/or lug nuts are worn or could it be that the hole in the wheel is worn requiring the lug nut to go on beyond it's depth? As I said in the previous post I was able to use the lug nuts from the two problem bolts on another wheel and there was no problem tightening them.

Yes, but the day generally comes when a new drum needs to be installed onto a hub, ...and most of us won't touch them as it is too difficult to machine the weld off. At that point the hub is just scrap. Therefore just do the repair properly and it preserves the integrity of the vehicle from now on.

Check those holes in the wheels. If they are wallowed out, that can be a big problem and not safe.
