A search will find the information you need including make and model of tranny and vendors of the adapter kits. there are several threads with different info in each.

We install an A4LD out of a 92 Ford Ranger. It works very well. Got the adapter etc. from Speed Gems. They have a website.

John,
How much frame modification did you have to do to shoehorn the A4LD into your rig? And what gear ratio did you use in the rear end?

Hey Dale,
The 'hot' setup with the old timers was early Chrysler auto trans. Just missed getting one in a car with , already installed. Good luck with your chronic pain situation. I believe that that is the number one cause for the change that you seek ,

Quite some time ago, The "Restorer" magazine had a good article on this subject. The person who needed the automatic had a disability that prevented using a clutch and gear shift. I wonder if there is an index where you could search for that article.
Good luck in your search.

Ask Jim Brierely, he knows a guy that shows up at hill climbs with
an auto trans in a model A and as I recall that guy makes a kit.

A Ford C4 is a very light weight, Aluminum automatic transmission.

There is an ad on the Ford Pinto site for a C4 out of a 1972 Pinto with 26K miles, only $100. It is in Idaho. Here is a link to the ad:

If an automatic is needed, one might as well go modern and get an overdrive version, with lockup converter, also. A C4 was a good trans in its day, as was the A904 Torq-flite. But that was over 50 years ago! An A4LD would be a better choice. It's also a small trans, with O/D and lockup converter, light years ahead of a C4.

Good idea.
I wonder what AOD would be a good fit?

you have to get an earlier A4LD as the later ones are fully ecm controlled... are guys wiring a toggle switch for the converter lockup? or not usiing it ? and if so what are they doing on a 6v system? the early 904's had a mechanical converter lock up...
