68C info
What does the top of the windshield frame where the top header fastens down to look like? Mine has a row of nuts in a small channel exposed when the top is down. Is there supposed to be something covering all of this? Also, anyone reproducing the landou spacers for a 68C?

Not a 100% sure what you are talking about.
Are you talking what you see looking above the cowl looking on top the windshield frame? Where the 2 studs stick out that the header screws too? Have you looked at the 68C article? I spent quite a bit of time with a magnifier and the article to learn what goes where for my car. |

on my 68A, that row of nuts is where my windshield hinge bolts on to the cowl/windshield frame/A pillar. maybe your 68C has a row of Dnuts there. ??

it sounds to me you have a 68B the 68C has the same windshield header as the A400 and there is NO D nuts or any nuts at all in the channel on the top the windshield header . the channel is where the header seal goes. on the 68A`s & B`s the header seal is installed in the channel on the top header pan. a picture would help out a lot.

That row of nuts is what holds the hinge to the windshield frame. They may not be right, but that's what's there. Is that channel supposed to have a seal there? Or does something else cover the nuts? Possibly the nuts were supposed to be Dnuts and not protrude into the channel, then a strip of some sort of seal goes in the channel. I would assume there had to be a seal of sorts there for the top header to rest against. A picture of this area would answer this very easily. Hope someone can help.

The top of the cowl above the windshield has a recesed area where the header cover pan triangle bump fits into and will press against a rubber seal. The replacement seal that fits well is the one sold for the 35-36 Ford convertible sedan.
Do not forget that the top irons had some pot metal triangle shaped bars that extended the bump on the header pan. The underside had D-nuts for the screws that held together the sandwich of items. The rubber seal comes in the kit of rubbers sold by Brattons (and others) for the slant window windshield. If I remember properly. You will put the rubber up first then hinge and screw it loosely. Then slide the inside garnish molding between the hinge and the rubber. Tighten up the screws and you should be done. Oh, I think the vacuum wiper line gets clipped on and the clips go on the screws first. Please keep in mind I might have the order of parts off a bit as I am working from memory. Now you say you have nuts. If you do not have D nuts in the header like in the picture I have attached of my car then someone has 'fixed' you car. It should have D nuts. Does that help? |

Stew, A picture of the underside of the top where it lays on the top of the windshield header would also be helpful. Kevin, my car has been "fixed" because I have a row of nuts in that white channel in your second picture. I guess I'm going to have to come up with some sort of seal to cover the nuts and seal the top when it's up. All of the seals around the windshield are new and seem to be installed correctly. Thanks everyone for your help.

The white in the channel is dust. It would be Lombard blue if it was clean.
