Default moving stock oil filter?

A friend of mine was looking at my flathead motor on the engine stand and remarked that while the motor was quite neat looking the oil filter seemed rather unsightly and "in the way". He suggested I move it for appearance sake to another location. It's the factory oil system setup. Can I install a remote filter or does the filter need to be elevated for drain back purposes.
Thanks for your help. Lefty Rodan

Stock setup must be elevated for draining purposes, but you could get a firewall mount filter that would do the same thing. I think I have one that is off an old military truck that mounts on the firewall. I'll see if I can dig it out and get you a picture.

I've got an old Fram fire wall mount filter assembly in my parts stash. I assume it just needs to be mounted high enough to drain and that you hook it up just like the stock one. I may have some photos on my other computer. I'll check. If not I can shoot some new ones.

That was the idea behind the beehive style oil filters. They are cool looking but a little pricey.

THat's a military junior filter. The Ford GPW and the Willys MB Jeeps used that. Mounted to a bracket that used head bolts on the 4 cyl engine.

Looks like it would make a nice firewall filter.

Thanks for posting pictures. I got it off an old military 1-1/4 ton truck. Thought I might use it someday. But went with a full flow on my Hot Rod.

Why not rework bracket on original filter and mount on firewall. May not look as "cool", but should be easy to do.

For what it's worth, the stock filter bracket is spot welded onto the canister. I had to drill them to remove the bracket for a bloke a while ago.

You could easily drill the spot welds, remove the bracket and make a new one or modify it to mount on the firewall.
