My mistake Scicala, It should have been sent to 58Yeoman

58 Yeoman, That Chrome Vent to are referring to is obviously a much flatter one made especially for the Wagons to try and duplicate the same look as the other models. That is my thoughts, as I have not seen a 1956 Mercury Station Wagon in the flesh. Regards Mercman <><

When you compare these two pictures, it is obvious that both both bodies are the same.
As has been mentioned previously on this subject, the Mercury Wagons for 1955 and 1956 actually used Ford Wagon bodies.
However, as Mercury didn't offer a Two Door Wagon until 1957, the person responsible for this great looking Mercury Two Door Station Wagon did a great job. As the Wheelbases of the Fords and Mercurys are different, he would have had to add the Ford Two Door Station Wagon Body to a Mercury Station Wagon Chassis, and add the longer front sheet metal from the Mercury. This is because the Wheelbase on the Fords was 115.5" while the Mercury Wagons were 118". All other Mercury body styles rode on a 119" Wheelbase. The builder of this wagon has to be commended. on building a fine looking Mercury Station Wagon.

The wagon was purchased new by Jessie Fredericks in Anderson, South Carolina from Blue Ridge Motors, she used the wagon for her flower shop & deliveries, when she retired the car she gave it to her son in law for hunting and fishing, he later gave it to my wife Brenda, it stayed in the barn for many years then I spent 7 years getting it back on the road.

The ivory six and 3 on the tree has been replaced with a 5.0 V* along with a 5 speed transmission.

HRP, that is a beautiful wagon! Thanks for posting the link to the pictures of the restoration, an amazing amount of metal work to get it where it is today.

Was that imported from the USA and converted to RHD ?
Or did they build 2 door wagons in Australia ?

scicala, the only 1956 Fords that were sold new in Australia was the Ford Customline Four Door Sedan and Mainline Utility. You guys in the USA don't know how lucky you are with the vast array of Body Styles to chose from. That is why in recent times, these different Body Styles have been imported into Australia. By the way, all Australian RHD 1956 Fords used the 1955 Ford Dash.

Is this a good shot?

I like that bumper add on on the 57 it really sets the front end off. The wraparound one on the 56 to me just makes the front of the car look too "busy".
