Default 32 Cabriolet Door Garnish Compatability

Hi, I heard that at least one model, possibly the 5 Window Coupe, has a door garnish that's compatible with the 32 Cabriolet with some length modification. Does anyone know which car it is? I have the passenger's side, but having the driver's side fabricated to match is pretty costly. Thanks for your help.
John

John,

Not to discourage you, but neither the standard/sport coupe moldings nor those of the front doors of a Fordor sedan are long enough as a starting point for the length you require. Your best bet would be either the front door or quarter window moldings from a Tudor sedan. But even then, they are ! 5/16" across the top (like the standard/sport coupe/Fordor moldings) compared to the 1 3/16" width of the cabriolet molding, which depending on the thickness of your door trim panels may not be that big a deal, but it does suggest that the attachment holes might have to be relocated to avoid interference with the up and down movement of the windows.

Thank you David, that info is very helpful. The metal fabricator said it would be much better to have a molding close enough to the original that can be altered as opposed to creating it from scratch. I'll see if I can obtain a Tudor sedan molding for alteration. Are any other years besides 1932 the same?

As I have a 32 Cabriolet, in my mind you can't retrofit something else and have it look close to correct. I'd have my "metal man" actually make the parts. It will take some special forming dies for the inside edge (if they have a Pulmax) and maybe some 'Frankensteining' of a few profiles/parts and welding.

The double half-round inner edge will be the most difficult - once that have that down, the rest might not be too bad (though I'm going to bet they'll need to Tig weld two pieces together at a minimum).

A bit of hand fabrication . . . but that is probably the only way it is going to happen.

Take a look a the pickup bed strips that bridge the gap between the wood floor boards, stacking two together tac welding with a bit of solder the full length of the joint & of course massaging to the original preferred dimension etc. I did something similar for a 32 sedan door moulding repair. I believe the bed strips are available reproduction, what I used was a swap meet cast off from a 50's Chevy, however I believe most all makes used the same profile. look around as my original plan was to use some traverse curtain rod extensions that come in various profiles, widths,& lengths.

We don’t have any garnishes either. While a mile away from being correct , 28 model A tudor do fit and even the screw holes line up , just need to reshape the curved ends.

Anti vibration rubber bumpers. They are reproduced - at least for the 3 long oval slots.I had a bunch from window channel kits and gave them away.

the double bump on 1933 and 1934 standards are a bit taller than the ones on 1932.
