Re: Shock Absorber Booklet...
I agree Steve P. I purchased one of the first ones in San Diego and had him sign it. Great reading and I truly believe him when he says his printing costs are very close to what the selling price is. He is an asset to the hobby.

Re: Shock Absorber Booklet...
Is there more info available about the booklet somewhere without writing the author?

It is about the evolution of Houdaille, Ford, Spicer, and National Acme shocks used on the Model A Ford. Color photos of each shock including description and when used. Charts showing just where the changes lie in the evolution of each shock including Cover changes, pointers and packing nuts, Logo changes, Patent Number Changes, and Base profile changes. Very well documented. What more can I say? Pluck |

Re: Shock Absorber Booklet...
Got a copy today that is an outstanding piece of work, and just what I need right now.
The best thing I will use right now to identify OEM shocks!! Why isn't it available thru the parts suppliers, or the national clubs?..The Restorer articles have been my go to source, but this trumps the articles, and the judging standards and restoration guidelines. Use: [email protected] |

Re: Shock Absorber Booklet...
Thank you all so much for your kind words about my Shock Book. I have updated the 2011 version this year and I added one more late 1931 shock variety and a Cross Reference List comparing this information with the information I presented in the Model A Restoration Guidelines and Judging Standards in 2016. It presents easy to digest information that, in some cases, was summarized in "The Standards".
Please note that my good friend Steve Plucker mentioned an out-dated email for me. Brentwood Bob has the correct "yahoo" address for me. |

Re: Shock Absorber Booklet...
Without this "Shock Book" a lot of time WILL be spent identifying the OEM shocks in my experience. I was starting to do tracings/ rubbings of the bottoms of the bases to narrow down the correct ones. This clarifys the correct assemblies, and time lines!!! A restorer with a few shock cores would be frustrated trying to end up with the correct restored shocks. No surprise to me that replacements ( tube shocks) are the only alternative.
Might as well do things correctly, thanks to steve's work, and save many hours of work trying to sort out the wheat from the chaff. Last edited by Brentwood Bob; 03-22-2023 at 01:56 PM. |

Re: Shock Absorber Booklet...
Good question. The build date would be a good clue. In Australia probably not.

Re: Shock Absorber Booklet...
For original equipment hydraulic shocks look in the judging standards and restoration guidelines. Then give me a call. Steve schumach's booklet puts a fine edge on what your replacements would be.
