1923 Touring Upholstery Questions
Greetings to all -
I usually follow the Model A forums moreso than the Model T, since we have several Model A's but only the one Model T. My wife and I are thinking that we may try to begin the upholstery process on our 1923 Touring after the first of the year. I thought that I might order up new seat springs from Snyders, but not being particularly well-versed in Model T's, I also thought that I would ask some of the experts here the following questions to help us get started: (1.) It is my understanding that this car would have had pleated seats with either buttons in alternating positions on the seat backs or all in a straight row, (and possibly also the cushions as well). Would this be correct, and if so, how should the buttons be placed? If indeed there were pleated seats, (2) what would have been the width of the pleats?, and if they also had buttons, (3) what would have been the distance from the buttons to the backs of each seat? (4) Would there have been a bead around the top edge of the seat cushions? I presume that there would have been some sort of "hide-em" welting around the tops of the front seat back, and around the rear portions of the door openings where the seat upholstery would wrap around to the doors? Although we are not in any real rush on this, I/we like to get started on this project within the next few weeks. (This car has been in the works for quite a few years - I acquired the car in either the summer of 1969 or 1970, so there truly is no real time line here). Thanks once again - I/we would be most appreciative for any and all help and guidance that anyone might care to offer. Also, pictures would be especially helpful if anyone can figure out how to post them on this site. Thanks again for all. |

Re: 1923 Touring Upholstery Questions
Dick, Here are some measurements from a 24 Touring. It looks the same as a 22 I just finished. It might be the same for a 23. The measurement for the buttons is from the front edge of the seat bottom to the button and from the rear edge of the backrest to the button. If you buy a kit from Mike at Classtique the pleats and buttons will already be done. If you are going to make your seat covers you can probably buy the materials from Classtique. Either way, if you could get a copy of the instructions Classtique sends with the kit it would be of great help. I sent you an email with my contact information. Art
