Default Diamond Block Project

Picked up a couple of diamond block pump motors in western Oklahoma and just started tearing the first one down. Looks like a project for sure. Appears # 4 piston broke at the pin. Good news is cylinder wall doesn't appear damaged. No marks on the piston top so it appears to be a standard bore. Rod is marked 120 not sure what that means. The oil channel in the valve chamber appears to be the only rust damage.

I don't have the tools to mic the rod or piston. I will take them to one of my buddies who does.

Well we got the project finished up today and I thought I would post a few pictures and a video of the motor running. Ended up having to bore the cylinders to 80 over and deck the block. We added new pistons and rings but kept the mains and rods as they were as we felt their was sufficient bearing for a motor that will be used as a spare and a run-up motor. Thanks to my good friend Bob Bordwine here in OKC for all the help and expert advice.

I wish I would have gotten that lucky with one of my diamond blocks. The standard bore block had no shims left in the main and was worn to the piont it was time for new babbit. The scond one was a victom of a really poor babbit job with a broken up rear main and thrust surface. The crank was also damaged at some point as it had a deep mark between 3 and 4 with the crank bent .012. The third had the center main busted up. One more left to look at some point. I have a different engine on thbe stand that needs a valve job and re-assembly and it should be fine for a backup engine. Rod

I brought the motor back to the shop today. We only had one problem and that was one of the old W-10 plugs I was bad and it was missing. My buddy Bob replaced them all with W16Y's and that took care of it. Now I just have to carve out some time to put it in the coupe and get started on rebuilding the motor in it.
