Weird, but interesting carburetor

I picked up this Tillotson carb on E-bay for 10 bucks because it was unlike other Tillotsons I have seen in that it doesn't have a square float bowl, but has a form factor like a Zenith. It was frozen, and I was just going to put it on a shelf in what my wife calls, "my museum"!

But then I got curious. I got it unfrozen, and have begun taking it apart. As I took it apart I noticed more unique features. It seems to have a accelerator pump, or auxiliary valve that come on at full throttle (pictures 1-2). It also has extra screws that are a mystery to me (pictures 3-4).

I think it may have been used on some farm equipment since it seems to have a "farm yard" modification of the throttle shaft where it is extended through to the engine side of the carb where other linkage hardware was installed (picture 5).

So, can any carb experts out there tell me what this weird duck is? Is it worth trying to rebuild it and get it working? I am thinking that a model A carb with an accelerator pump might be cool? Would Zenith parts work in this beast?

From what I understand those tillotsons are not rebuildable by parts from the parts houses. You will have to find several to make one. Renner's Corner may have parts though.

In my Mother in Laws' back yard, I dug up a carb that was milled out of a "chunk" of BRASS! Did I keep it? NO!---But I kept a KEWPIE DOLL, signed by Rose O'Neill. Sold that cutie for $95.00----

I have 2, one is brand new in the original box. I've always wanted to run it but would probably leak like crazy.

I finished taking it apart (the pieces are in the ultrasonic cleaner now) the thing that looked like an accelerator pump - wasn't. It is a needle valve that is pulled up and open at full throttle.

I'll clean, paint, and reassemble it. It will look good in "the museum".

It seems many have seen them, and even own some, but no-one seems to know the story of them. Very Interesting!

It would be cool to hear from someone who has tried to run one.

My friend had one on his AA and it ran very good, but I understand that they clog up easier than others--don't know. I believe they are called a F-1B Tillotson. I nave several that I haven't gotten around to checking out. No need to with the other choices available. Jack

Another interesting feature is that it has no separate venturi. It is part of the upper casting.

I believe the needle valve you mentioned is actually a power jet similar to what a B Zenith has. There is a guy in Whittier, CA I believe it is, his name is Kenny, that can rebuild those. He lists rebuilt carbs on ebay occasionally.

I have an identical carb, but haven't cleaned or tried it yet. I've never seen one painted.

Yeah, I'll skip the paint and let the pot metal show in all its glory. I'll just polish up the brass that shows to make it "purty".

I believe the float valve and possibly the float itself are the same as a Zenith. Smith and Jones Model A has a gasket set for them. I run one on my A and have had no trouble. Like most pot metal carbs they like to warp from over tightening but they can be resurrected and if you paint it black most people will never spot it as not a Zenith.
