Re: Why do you own a Model A?
In 1966 I restored a '29 Phaeton as it looked like a passport to girls, parties and fun fun fun! This got me involved in the Vintage Car Club and as time passed, I was attracted to more exotic cars culminating in two Lancia Lambdas. When each broke its crankshaft consecutively and it took 18 months and $10,000 each time to replace them, I yearned for the simplicity of the old Model A and its readily available and reasonably priced spare parts.
Since building a speedster we have enjoyed the fellowship of the New Zealand Model A community and are very happy to be back amongst fellow Model A enthusiasts |

Couldn't afford the one I wanted when I was sixteen, now I can.

Re: Why do you own a Model A?
I got my first ride in an A in about 1950 while going to grimmer school from an Indian neighbor in California. I rode with him a few times an fell in love with the sound. After Air Force an College, the wife and I could afford one, 30 Sport Coupe. Then got a 29 Tudor and has been one ever after. The MAFCA Club in Santa Barbara was the best thing to happen to us. Now it is the tours we take that keeps us going. Look forward to each one that MATC comes up with that we can make. The greatest people are involved with Model A Fords. Thanks to all.

Re: Why do you own a Model A?
When I was in 7th grade, my shop teacher lived in the neighborhood. He had brought a '29 pickup from Colorado and was restoring it in his garage. I was overcome with curiosity and my Dad saw this. Two years later, I received a basket case '30 tudor for Christmas, best present ever. Well, Dad and I restored the chassis and sheet metal. By then it was off to college and girls, go figure. I lost interest and sold the project, but knew I would have an A sooner or later. So I bought a '29 tudor at 57, did all the underside and have been driving it ever since. And, bought a '31 Vicky for when I retire in 74 days, but who's counting. By the way, shop teacher and I see each other at least every year at Hershey.

Re: Why do you own a Model A?
A good friend who collects at a different level once told me you can have just as much fun with a model A as you can with a model J. He's largely correct.

Re: Why do you own a Model A?
I was first exposed to Model A's when I was 14 years old. I had a very patient mentor that taught me a lot about life while we were around these cars. We went to swap meets, auction sales, collectors, car shows, and met many other car enthusiasts while going to these events. Forty six years later several of the friends I first met as a young teenager have become lifelong friends.
My life has been enriched in many ways because of Henry's Model A. I really couldn't imagine not having one in my garage. |

Re: Why do you own a Model A?
That's funny to me because my dream car is a Model J, 1929 coupe. Just a bit out of my price range though.

Re: Why do you own a Model A?
I realized many years ago if you are listening to the radio when you drive then you have bought the wrong car. If a Model A engine isn't music then what is?

Re: Why do you own a Model A?
My first intro to the Model A was as a kid, via a '28 or '29 Tudor that used to come down my street every morning around 8am, honk the horn at the corner (in case anyone was coming and needed to give way to him coming down the hill!) and go past my place, but which time I'd have my nose pressed up against the window. Bought a '28 Nash sedan for $50 when I was 16. It's still in bits (shame on me!). I was 50 before I bought my first running vintage car, a 27 Chev, and 10 years later I finally found my E28 Phaeton. It's a survivor and I love it exactly the way it is. What's more, unlike the Chev, it actually STOPS when you put your foot on the brake!

The sound of the Model A engine might be music to some people but there's music and music; I drive my Model A without listening to the radio because it doesn't have one, I drive my Porsche with the radio switched off because it provides the full orchestra. |

Re: Why do you own a Model A?
Because I love spending money on something older than me! And quite frankly the old thing runs better than me.
That is my answer and I am sticking to it. |

Re: Why do you own a Model A?
I was car crazy about owning a Deuce Hot Rod since I was 13 years old. When I graduated high school, my parents bought my 1931 Model A Coupe which I've owned for 55 years. Loosing my license for street racing put an end to hot rodding the Coupe, so I restored it. In 1993 my wife bought the Victoria for me, so I restored that car too.

I don't always drive a Duesenberg, but when I do, I can't resist this sh** eating grin! (Way out of my price range as well!)
