Default Reproduction light switch

I have been hearing that the reproduction light switches are junk what exactly happens when they go bad? I am having suspicions that mine is going bad when driving at light the lights will flicer the motor will studder. I turn off the lights everything goes back to normal the other day i disconnected it and played with it and it seemed to help my suspicion is that its growning out some how. Dose this sound right? and if so is there anything i can do to fix it?
