I seem to have lost the ability to Delete a post on a thread... anyone else?

I had a previous post that i wanted to remove and couldn't. Instead i had to edit it, remove the words then leave 3 dashes....

I did wack my head today on the lift, but i am pretty sure i remembered how to do it. Lol

I suppose I should try to delete this post.

Well, now, the delete button is missing. It was right there a couple days ago.

My sentiment exactly. That's why I've never ever used an eraser in my lifetime.

Didn't I read the other day something about Ryan removed the delete option?

Guess I'll find out if I can't delete this reply.

Well, I went to "go advanced" twice and clicked on "Delete", but it doesn't work.

I would think it would be an important option in case you had second thoughts or found the answer to the question you'd posted.

No, I have no delete option, either.

"found the answer to the question" ; don't delete, but let others share.
"an important option in case you had second thoughts" : NO, here we say : turn your tong 7 times around before you say something. Once said or written it's too late.

When you subscribe to a thread, there is a option to get an instant notification by email. I usually select this option. What ever was in the "post reply" is sent to my phone, even if you deleted it, or edit it, you receive what was originally posted.

From Boy Scouts, I recall '---' being Morse Code for the letter 'O', as in SOS

... --- ... dot dot dot, dash dash dash, dot dot dot

Maybe Ryan is trying to send us a message

Or look at it another way. If this was Johnny Cochran defending OJ he would say 'If you can't repeat, you must delete.'

We have to be careful what we say on here.

When I made a post that I thought later could be misinterpreted, I went to delete it but couldn't so I edited it and only left the word "Deleted" and saved that. The end result was the same only some might have thought Ryan might have deleted it.
The outcome I suspect Ryan was after is to make sure things are nice right from the outset. OK by me!

Until recently you could delete posts other then the ones you started.

Sometimes you miss an answer in the thread, repost the solution and want to delete your duplicate. Nothing wrong with that.

It is possible that a member here gets pissed off and decides to delete all of their posts including ones with proper answers to proper questions and links to good information. With no delete option the information stays with the site. Just an idea as to why the option would be "deleted".

All my quotes and posts are being compiled into a novel. Coming soon to a book store near you, "Barn Quotes and Posts" by 31 Model A.

Any publication lawyers here? There might be a clause that states, what's written on my public forum is my property. Something to ponder!!!

The absence of a delete function is silly. It does not want to make me post more carefully, it makes me want to post less. I cannot think of a single other website I am on that doesn't allow me to delete my own posts. As Synchro909 pointed out. You can effectively delete a post by editing it down to gibberish, but what a pain. So, what's up, Ryan?

With the edit function on this site nobody should need a delete button. It's good practise to proofread your posts before committing them anyway.

Proof reading does not equal remorse. Besides, if you can edit all of the content out of a post, why not just be able to delete it? Come on, that's a silly dysfunction.

Remorse? What on earth are you going on about? This is a forum for people who own or are interested in old cars, there's nothing confidential, special or even unique about the help, advice and opinions given. If people are getting so upset that they want to throw their toys out of the cot, stop anyone else kicking their ball and delete the help they have freely offered are you sure that they are mature enough to be using the Internet on their own?

31 Model A... I just did a google on the interweb regarding your "bear" question, apparently bears "do" relieve themselves in the woods. I don't know this for fact, just hoping to answer part one, of your two part question. As for the cat question I will continue my research.. Lol Jeff

.............I have no fire protection here or I would have asked a fireman about the second question but I do see reports on the TV where cats are rescued from trees now and then. I guess they can climb trees or someone throws them up there!!!

I'll have a look when I have some time...

I've noticed a lot of users that have been complete jerks in the past have tried to cover their tracks by deleting and editing their posts after my recent focus on cleaning this joint up.

As such, this feature is helping me kind of smoke out that people that deserve FULL REFUNDS...

Isn't that a good thing? Is the focus to have nice "clean" posts or to get rid of people? If the member "sees the light" and has a change of heart, why not?

I've been doing this for 21 years and can count on one hand the number of users that have successfully had a change of heart.

My goal is to get rid of people that aren't capable of being decent folks. That don't have the capacity to simply be nice to folks.

In my opinion, it's not that hard have decent manners and I'm not asking all that much.

I'm not gonna show much mercy for awhile. I'm 100% done running a joint that constantly has these problems. But I should say - if you are here to learn about or teach folks about old Fords and you are not interested in ego, social status, politics, etc... you have nothing to worry about and can effectively ignore me for awhile. Things will be back and way better than normal soon.

It would be very helpful to at least have the edit or delete function for the classifieds.

Unless something has changed in the classifieds, the poster of an ad can update the ad by posting a reply and bump it with new info such as sold or price change. Or just let if fall off the page but it still best to update by letting people know its been sold so a year from now someone doesn't ask about it. Considering the number of people that never updated their ad before the change I don't think having the delete or edit will change how people use the classifieds when they sell something.
