Default Radio antenna

Where should the antenna go on a 57 Fairlane 500? I have seen sweep type in the center of the trunk lid but that doesnt appeal to me.

Just a random photo or two found on the internet...
On the right front fender. Looks like it could be in line with the back edge of the tire???

My understanding is that when a car had a factory equipped radio, the antenna was put in the trunk for the dealer to install. Most were installed on either side front fender, but usually on the right front fender. There was a diagram from ford that showed where the antenna was to be mounted, on the right side front fender (at least for the TBird).

I think the swooped back rear mounted antennas were either a dealer unit or a Ford authorized accessory.

years ago when I had a '57 , the antenna was on the rt ft fender. I have seen twin antennas on the rear quarters, but they looked terrible to me

I worked at a Ford dealer while in HS in the mid to late 60's. It was my job to install the antenna's, and Ford supplied a paper template to tape to the fender to show where to drill the holes. In '69, the radio was on the left of the driver, so I installed the supplied antenna, then went inside to connect it. What? No radio; the lawyer ordered the car w/o one, but Ford supplied the antenna. The boss said no to worry about it, the lawyer wouldn't notice. The only one.
