International Harvester? What year?
This photo was taken in 1917 of my dad and his grandad. His grandad was known as the watermelon king of Portage WI. My dad was 3 years old when this was taken.
Can you guys help me? Is this an International Harvester? If it is, what year? Thanks, Mike |

Try sending it to Powerland Museum in the Salem area, they may be able to help.

Re: International Harvester? What year?
Thanks guys, if I remember correctly, Dad told me it was a 1910.
His grandfather was quite a character. He was a heavy drinker, probably because of a broken leg that never healed properly. Dad told me that his grandad was over six foot tall on his good leg, and 5'7” on the bad one. One time he went into town and left $100 at the police station to cover his bail for the next year. Apparently he got tired of being arrested for drunkeness and not having anyone to bail him out. I remember Dad taking me to town in the late forties and introducing me to three civil war veterans. The town had put up a bench on mainstreet for the guys to sit on. They were all over 100. Two Union and one Confederate. I wish that I would have been able to talk with them and understand their stories. Dad knew them all on a first name basis. I think that was the first time I ever heard Dad called by his nick-name. Blackie. Thank god for some of these memories, Mike |

Here is a resgistery group,
"This registry was created to build and share information for all Pre 1930 International Harvester Trucks/Cars/HW (now extended to include all International Harvester Trucks up to 1940). The focus is to compile a database of all known surviving including restored or unrestored, complete or parts." Veteran International Harvester Truck Registry

Re: International Harvester? What year?
Many years ago, one of our MARC members had a restored IH which, to the best of my memory, was a 1908. It look very similar to the picture in Post #1, and so I think your
indication of 1910 is probably correct. Our member has now passed away, and I don't know who has his IH now, and I can't find any pictures of it. W. Michael |

Re: International Harvester? What year?
Chief, Momma & I made a round trip on Route 66, from Oklahoma to California, in a '35 International Pickup, with a "CUSTOM" stick, to hold it in HIGH GEAR!
GOD!!!! It was HOT!!! Bill W.

Re: International Harvester? What year?
Dammit Bill, you’ve made me remember another one.
I don’t even remember what car or truck it was, but I can remember siting in the front seat between Mom and Dad and having to hold the gear shift in place. As soon as I got distracted and let up on that knob, it would pop out of high as soon as Dad let up on the gas. I remember, “Dammit Mike, hold onto that thing” like it was yesterday. I can still hear the sound of my Dad’s voice and Mom’s trying to get him not to cuss around me. She finally gave up. Mike |
