Default Use of dual zenith carbs back in the 20's

Were dual carbs sometimes used back in their day on model A's or was this a very rare thing?

If you look at the book called "Those wonderful unauthorized Accessories" you will see a number of dual carb set ups for sale in the Model A in the Model A era.

Your picture is two B Carbs, but yes as Lindy says, there were quite a few dual carb setups for the Model A. Lindy runs a dual carb setup on one of his Model A's.

Purdy (who used to post here) ran them. Do a search for his posts, he had pictures.

I'd heard of twin carby setups and couldn't see how to connect both GAVs. That picture shows me how - You don't! Does using only one cause any issues? What is low speed running like? Is there any top end improvement and how is driveability? Questions, questions, questions.

takes a bit to get them in sync.
No problem with driveability.
Choke on 1 carb is enough for cranking.
Makes about 6 more hp on dyno than a B carb and intake.
Adds about 8-9 more ft lbs of torque at higher rpm.

I've got the same setup as the picture in post #1.

It took a bit of trial and error to get the throttle plates in sync, but once adjusted it works very well and idles fine. It takes a bit longer to warm up than a single carb. The GAV on the rear carb is closed, only the front one can be adjusted. Both choke plates are linked.
