Default Swap meet find! 1941 Lincoln Transmission with LZ Gears

Was at the Spring Jefferson,Wisconsin swap meet today and spied this Lincoln transmission on a trailer with some other flathead pieces. The guys selling the engine and parts basically knew nothing about Ford Flatheads and I ended up answering questions by prospective customers. Everything was moving smoothly in the transmission so a price was agreed on and it looks like I got some good gears. 26 tooth cluster and 18 tooth input shaft. Just wiped things off and I don't see any issues. More disassembly and cleaning tomorrow.

Saw a load of axles and frames in a junkers trailer late at night, all wide 5 hubs,
Went back down town at 6am, already gone should have perused to the north county probably could have caught at the scales. Ignorance sucks

You say that this Transmission is from a 1941 Lincoln. I know that the earlier Lincoln Zephyr Transmissions had the removable side piece on the Right side, whereas this one has it on the Left side. What year did they change to the Left side?

Pretty sure it changed in 1940. I dated this one from the serial number list on a Lincoln site.

What years would this Lincoln Zephyr Transmission be applicable to? Would it be correct for 1938 to 1940 models?

Correction - Correct for 1938 and 1939 Lincoln Zephyr only. Thanks Gary

In 1941 the Engineers at Ford must have changed the opening on the Lincoln Zephyr Transmission to the Left Hand Side.

Your first picture is a 1938 or 39 transmission. Like Ford in 1940 Lincoln switched to three on the tree.

Good score! I had a simular find at Hershey. It was sitting in a guy’s spot with no tag or price on it. I asked, how much for the long transmission (mine is an O/D) Guy said $50. I couldn’t get the money out fast enough. 28 tooth gear set in it is perfect

Either side cover will bolt to the Lincoln Zephyr case. Using the '39 Zep case in 1940 for the new column-shifted, RHD transmissions was a stroke of genius on Ford's part, requiring only a newly-designed side shift cover, as seen in this picture. You can see that the side cover mounting bolt locations are the same on both transmissions. DD
