Default 52 F1 Flathead

I am pulling my flathead engine out of the truck to transport it to the machine shop. Can i just lower the engine onto the wooden pallet and let it sit on its oil pan or do i need to do something else?

I would block it up under the water pumps and at bellhousing surface. You could bolt something like a piece of angle iron to the rear of the block and just run a bolt through the water pump mounts.

Or I think O Ron sets them in an old tire!

Maybe you should make something for bringing the engine back when it is finished while you still have it to measure. If you don’t want to bring nice painted engine back on a tire.

I made a wooden cradle that is sort of a trapezoid shape wider at the rear than front. I used plain pine 2 X 12" stock and some big lag bolts to bolt it together. I left the rear board longer than the sides so it won't roll over.

It sure makes hauling an old flathead engine a lot easier. It doubles as a work stand when I'm not using it.

Do you have any photos of the mount you made?

I also made a wooden cradle (with 4 casters) to move mine from the carport to my shop. I reused the wood since, so I have to make another one soon to move the block back to install in the truck. It was made of 4x4" posts, with threaded rods thru the over-lapped corners. Lag bolts thru the water pumps'.
Sorry, no photos of my old one.

When I got my 1951 flathead, it was sitting on the remains of a shopping cart. When I finished rebuilding the motor, I rebuilt the cart as well. The motor is now sitting on it waiting for me to finish the truck itself.

I'm not where I can take photos of it right now. Basically I set up the 2 X 12s so that they would pick up the pan rails in the front and the casting ears of the bell flange in the rear. They will only cradle it one way that will support the length of the engine. The front piece just ties the two side rails together. It has a cut out so the crankshaft will set down into it. The back rail is just wide enough to prevent rollover.

All I have to do is set the engine down into it and it will stay right where I rest it on the pan rail flange.
