Smile Increasing flow on stock oil pump

Anyone had experience with increasing flow on a oil pump. I am using an early pump housing with the 9/16 passage and relieving a new 1/2 inch diameter shaft to 3/8 as was the original shaft. Any other ideas of what else might be done. I have adapted the pump by closing off the top of the housing with a bushing and routing the oil flow though a remote filter from the fitting on the side of the block and back into the side cover into the oil channel. Just wondering if anyone else as attempted this modification.
Thanks
Rick Jensen

A filter kit that does this without pump modification is available from many suppliers. I think I would rather use a later pump body and modify the shaft as a model B shaft is configured.
