I am armed and dangerous.. Besides you'd be hard pressed to find me. I have been on a roll. When my wife got home from work tonight she found me artfully distressing my earlier version of 'tacoma cream'. It was just a bit too yellow for my liking. The tailgate photos were the new version, the grille was just too yellow.

GB,

Saving another one is always good.

I found an easy way to paint the letters on the tailgate, the hood script and the hood latch background. My oldest daughters father-in-law is a sign painter. Didn't take him very long and came out looking beautiful. He also painted the shop name etc. on the doors. He told me "no charge" but I paid him a token $100.00 to make me feel better. I just couldn't let him do if for free.

If you are going to use the roller method, tightly stretch a piece of screen fabric across the raised area first and hold it in place with tape. Lightly load the roller with paint and lightly roll it across the raised area. The screen will keep the roller from pressing down too hard on the edges and you will have a neat edge. Lift the screen straight up right after painting.

When you say 'screen fabric' do you mean common window screen, or is this something used in the screen printing process?

I meant the poly window screen because the metal window screen is thicker and might leave a pattern. The screen printing process uses very fine silk screen but that could get expensive for just one job. Actually any thin fine weave poly fabric would work as long as it is easy to push the paint through. You could even use the wife's old panty hose. Hmmm..... maybe you might want to get some new stuff....

Try this on some scrap first to get the hang of it.

This has been really informative. Glad I asked. The 'Information Superhighway' for sure. Now I have to figure out what 'pantyhose' is. The girls around here wear wool socks. Well, most of the time

I found this (I'm thinking 1970's?) chip chart from PPG. Not sure they can decode it at the paint shop anymore. But... whatever.

I've been to Tacoma Wa a few times to visit my brother in law and sister. It's a very nice place.

The roller you want to use is called a 'brayer'-rubber with a little give. Available at art supply stores.

I'm thinking that with all this newfound knowledge, maybe I should paint the script on the hood sides next. Unlike my tortured tailgate, they remain flat and straight. Did Ford paint the hood script in tacoma cream?

As for an Orcas Island joyride in the woodie, pile in! As long as it isn't raining. I'm being a real wuss about getting water in the joints. Maple likes to turn black around the edges. Yesterday I cleaned and lubed the vacuum wipers in the red truck and they flip back and forth like crazy, so that's my rainy day rig.
