Default What wheels are on this car?

Helping a couple that are wanting to get their A back on the road after a 40 some year slumber.
Can anyone tell me what wheels are on this car and if they are okay to use?

Dave, the rear wheel looks like it has spring clips to mount a small hubcap to,
which would be early Lincoln, or maybe I'm not seeing it clearly.
Do any of the wheels have spring clips OR do they have the four small bumps,
facing the lugnuts, that would hold a small hubcap onto the wheel ?

Dave, are they 16 inch ? If there not bent and the lug holes are ok I would say there ok to use. Lots of model As had 16 inch wheels on them when I was a kid.

Wish I would have paid more attention to the wheels and had taken pictures of each of them but I was paying more attention to the engine mechanicals. I was assuming they were all the same but now I'm unsure of that. I'll see if I can get them to take a picture of each one for me. They are about 25 miles away so it's not a quick trip to take a look.

Dave, as Frank said, make sure the lug holes look good.
Then, they will have to remove the tires to check for any deep rust
in the bead area of each wheel as that would weaken the metal.
If all looks reasonably good, they should be OK to use.

Let me know what holds the small hubcaps to the wheels, and
I can probably tell you what year vehicle the wheels came off of.

When I was a kid (late '50s) my Model A had those type wheels. They were 16" probably from a '40s Ford of some sort. I preferred the look of 19" wheels, so I traded a guy for a set.

Close up shot of rear wheel on Model A Ford. It seems to have more than 5 Studs?

Will any of them hold air? I would start there just to make life easier, if it starts & can move or just roll around big deal

I think it only has the 5 studs, but that's why I think it looks
like it has spring clips for the hubcaps, as the early Lincoln has.

I would guess that the wheels are about '40 Ford but for what I am going to say it doesn't matter. The Model A (and Ford cars through 1935) mounted the wheels at two separate levels (while later wheels did not). If you still have the Model A hubs you need to run an adapter. They will bolt on but will eventually crack. See: https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...=1#post1286293

What brakes are on the car?

Also, the '40-'41 wheels have the flat area around each lug hole.
The '46-'48 are volcanod out around each lug hole, making them
a lot stronger. The '40-'41 wheels could crack real easy from the
lug hole to the center of the wheel, because they are flat around
the lug holes... Below is a picture of each lug hole design.

They sent me pictures of the wheels. No chance of them holding air.

Hmmm....Those center caps are marked for Dodge Bros.

Someone put a set screw through the side of the two Dodge Brothers caps to hold them to the hubs. Many interesting things happen to these old cars over the years.

They have the same Bolt Pattern as the Early Ford, but are not Ford Wheels.

Back to the original question. After "40 years of slumber", your friends have much bigger questions than whether to reuse a mis-matched set of wheels. Model A wheels are not that hard to find and they have many other issues to address with this car.

FWIW, some early Jeeps used the same bolt pattern.
