Long shift to third .
Looks like my transmission is on the way out . Shifts from first to second at about 18 mph and into 3rd about 24. Some times it long shifts into third. I changed the filter screen and made sure fluid level is perfect at hot idle . Is there really any kind of mystery oil that really helps ? Or any other suggestions for my 1974 bronco with C4 automatic.

Re: Long shift to third .
One suggestion; check for vacuum leaks in the line going to the vacuum modulator or possibly the Vac Mod is bad itself. Cheaper to check that a new trans.
Check band adjustment? No mystery oil... |

Re: Long shift to third .
Lubegard friction modifier is a great product and the only one I recommend. I use it in all of my rebuilds. If this stuff doesn't improve the shift quality, you're going to have to rebuild it. You have to use the stuff in the black bottle in a silver and black box. It's about $19.00 in parts stores and available on e-bay for less than that.

Thanks for that information . I will check the vac module and hoses , I changed all the rest of the hoses and they were rotten , then the lube guard sounds good.

Re: Long shift to third .
I had that happen to me twice, a C-4 on a Mustang and a C-6 on an F150. I put a quart of Trans X additive in the Mustang ( the additive was new on the market in 1988 when this happened) It cured the problem for about 6 months and by then I was ready to have it rebuilt. Did the same for the F150.
