If you are talking about the sending units that bolt into the heads the dual connector one goes driver side.

A headbolt heater is used in cold weather to warm the engine for easier starting. Our '50 F-2 had one but I don't remember the location. Sorry.

I wouldn't think it would matter that much where it is as long as it has clearance on all sides down in the block. Main objective is to warm the coolant. We had on on the old H Farmall tractor.....worked great for years but finally burned out.

For you guys in warmer climes, they are simply a threaded element that replaces a head bolt to warm up the engine on a cold day.

In as much as most if not all of these were after market items, the positioning was done according to the instructions provided with the units.
As stated, so long as it goes into the water jacket without interference.
Most likely the heaters are really not necessary where the truck is going to, so if it were me I would just not install them.
This is a pic of a similar heater.

Yep! unless it's going to be used in an environment where it is absolutely necessary, do not install them.

I will try to post a pic of it but as someone stated it is rod shaped, about 3/8 diam brass color about 10 in long. It has two elec connector tabs at top encased in bakelight material threaded about 3 1/2 down from top. it will fit in a couple of places on each side of the head and there is one for each side. Thanks for help we will try to get diff bolts for it or put them in last to c where they will fit better.

I don't know where you're located, but I can start my 48 F1 at -20F without a block heater.

When it gets that cold I run a ceramic forced air heater aimed at the dist/carb for faster starts.

If you're determined to use it, I'd say down low and center for even heating
