Default Hi from Oz

Hi guys, thanks for letting me join. I have been reading post on here for the last couple of weeks and i have gotten some awesome info. I have recently acquired a 54 Mainline ute with a non running 8BA. The heads are in getting crack tested and cleaned up. I was just wondering if anyone knew if i could get a hold of one of KiWinUS's L100 cams any where in Australia? Or if it was something i could just get ground from my original cam over here? The plan is to build just a cruiser, something good for long distance highway cruising but sounds cool around town without being a slug off the line. You know the best of everything as cheap as possible. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There appears to be quite a few hot rod shops in Australia. Can they help you? There are lots of flathead lovers "down under". Some are on Fordbarn.

G’day mate. I love mainline utes. Came close to owning a 56 back in my home town as a youngster but it was way too rusty looked like it had been in the ocean. I have shipped many many of myKiWi-L100 cams down there but most are probably in engines. Not sure where you are located but there’s a slim chance the guy’s that cast the intakes in Melbourne may know of one. Good luck with your mainline & search. I would be glad to help in anyway I can
Cheers
Tony

Thanks for the quick replies,
Sorry guys I didn't realise my location wasn't coming up. I am in Victoria about an hour west of Melbourne.
The heads i have are stock but are crack free and just getting a quick plane to get them flat again.
I have gathered from the info i have read on here that i will need to get the bottom end together prior to finding out how much machine work will be required on the heads. I have a lead on a mercury 4" crank, also have an old school Fenton dual intake. The bores look good but need to be mic'd up to ensure that i can run the stock size piston again. If not i'll get it bored to .020 over. Will i need to get Mercury pistons to suit the Merc crank? Also is the machining job to fit Chev intake valves something that most reputable machine shops can handle? Does it require any specialist equipment to deal with the flathead block?

Yes you will need merc pistons to suit the merc crank. No big deal to install chev valves. They a longer but if you use a reground cam typically work just fine. Cheers

Thanks KiWi. What is one of your cranks worth in USD? It might be worth me getting one shipped over when i get to that stage. Also (sorry to be a pain) but what is a usable Merc crank worth over there. Just incase i cant talk ol' mate into selling me his.
