Wheel 01AS 1015B - Early Chassis Catalog Reference?
I posted this question over on FTE but have found no one with an early edition of the Green Bible. Maybe better luck here.
I’m looking for anyone that might have an early 1940s original paper Chassis Catalog that might include reference to this wheel? I have the late 1940s Green Bible but it is silent to it. My wheel references show it is a 15” x 5.50” one piece, type “F” drop center, 5 x 5.5” pattern, “Change Over” wheel available on Commercial models 1940-1946. It is Kelsey Hayes #23427. Normally Change Over wheels were aftermarket and not assigned Ford numbers, as was the case with the earlier 1936 to 1939 version of this wheel having the 5 x 10.25” pattern. But this later wheel got assigned a Ford number. I’ve added to my eBay watch list a couple of ‘38-‘42 editions of the catalog in case nobody comes up with an answer. The reason this might matter is Ford’s practice of deleting obsoleted/superseded/interchanged parts from subsequent publications of the Green Bible. Thx. Stu

I have a Ford and Mercury chassis parts and price list from October 1941. I looked at it twice and do not see that number listed in it.

It is not in the 1948-55 Ford Truck Chassis Parts Reference Book.

Re: Wheel 01AS 1015B - Early Chassis Catalog Reference?
Thanks for looking, guys. I have several of the original ‘48 to ‘56 catalogs too, and three OSI catalogs. The OSI of 1/51 I thought might be likely to show it obsoleted as it does the equally mysterious two piece wheel 7RC 1015 that’s listed in the Service Manual, but no such luck.
So often we get questions from new guys wanting to know if a 15” wheel was an option on these early trucks, and the standard answer is always no. Only 16” wheels prior to 1953. But the NWRA and K-H records of this 01AS 1015B make it an open question. The 7RC 1015 I’ve had some success tracking down with the help of James K. Wagner and the good folks at the Benson Ford Research Library. It ultimately saw production in 1953 after two number changes to TAAA 1007A / K-H 36877. Also this week, which brought all this back to mind, I came upon the below 1938 Firestone reference for their “Change Over” 15” wheels for both the 5 x 10.25” and 5 x 5.5” patterns. So there are examples of 15” wheels having been available for these early trucks. Stu

I have catalogs dated 2/20/40 and 5/41 with no reference to that wheel.

I have a Jan, 1955 OSI catalog which notes an 01AS 1015 A.(noB). Obsolete and not replaced.

Yes, I see it too. Would love to know what the difference was between this A and B. I again checked the 7/53 and 1/51 OSIs and find no answer. I’ve also never found an earlier OSI listed for sale. Maybe I should watch closer for that. Thx. Stu
