Re: Modern Plate Points #
Ford only made about 3 styles of points between 1932 and the 70's. NAPA should be willing to show them to you, and you can match to the ones you have.

Ford V8,57-72. Just ask for a set for a 65 Mustang with a V8.If you get a parts man that even knows what points are he will most likely just walk back and pick out what you need.

NAPA here on the west coast offers at least two different qualities. Buy the best they offer. better yet buy from a Ford dealer. I do just like Keith does.

Re: Modern Plate Points #
That wireless setup can be OK if it is set up properly. It is a little fussy to set up,but if you do it right it works fine.I put a new set of points in every year for a man that has one,I'll bet that setup is 15-18 years old.Without fail he manages to leave the key on some point in the summer, and it turns his point arm black.I really expected to see some arcing problems with that setup, because it just looks cheesy, but both setups I personally take care of show no signs of arcing whatsoever.I have a setup I took out of a customers car,he had trouble with it shorting out.It was not the fault of the setup,it was the owner/installer.

Re: Modern Plate Points #
I have eliminated the lower plate and connect directly from the coil to the points but can someone educate me on the wireless plate? Thanks.

Re: Modern Plate Points #
I have these part numbers, but I have not yet bought the parts to assure the numbers are correct:
Motorcraft DC-12 Condenser, Ford Part # B7A 12300-C; Motorcraft DP-3 Distributor Point, Ford Part # C9AZ 12171-B.

Re: Modern Plate Points #
Not sure, but I was a truck mechanic for 20 years, and the parts room stocked just 3. As I recall there was a 'right-hand' a 'left-hand', and a curved set.

Re: Modern Plate Points #
As Keith True says the wireless plate works fine if set up properly. But then the wire connection needs to be set up properly also. I have used both with no problems.
