the reason I suggested a hair dryer is a heat gun if not careful will melt the carpet.heat gun is useful but I would be leery of using on carpet.hopefully pulling engine without removing carpet works out.

1950 Merc per avatar donno about nr of bolts ...

however I have located the section of Shop Manual 'Removal of CM Engine'. It provides either removal of transmission through interior (my initial reason for this thread) OR removal with transmission/OD together with engine by removing 2 forward engine mount plus rear OD mounts and disconnect of drive shaft U-bolts.. Later requiring more time.

I would think the most efficient way to "drop" a transmission is with a lift or jacks. Easier then pulling it through the interior.

"Lot's of ways to skin a cat"... which really sounds like something a psychopath would say.

On My 50 mercury I was able to remove trans and clutch without removing floor mats or pan. Dave
