What is it? Cabriolet or coupe with roof cut off?
Just like the title says. What is it? I think it is a coupe with the top off, but not 100% sure. Your opinions needed. Thanks

Could tell better if a rear shot showed a rumble seat or a trunk or the cowl showed wipers instead of above the window.

Re: What is it? Cabriolet or coupe with roof cut off?
Best pictures i got. I just think the door looks to narrow, it seems like a cabriolet has a wider door and has an extra reveal at the top. These doors look like coupe doors cut off, but i cant tell for sure? Thanks.

Coupe. Looks like a bit of curve to the top of the A pillar, and the top of the doors on a coupe or sedan is flat above the belt line. Cabriolet and Convertible Sedan doors (probably Roadster too) have another reveal line stamped above the belt line.

Are there windows in the doors, it looks like a 37 roadster. G.M.

I say the doors are the wrong length for a Roadster/Cabriolet . The proportions are all wrong .
Its a converted coupe Last edited by 1932 V8; 09-11-2013 at 11:26 AM. |

Re: What is it? Cabriolet or coupe with roof cut off?
I agree with Fordors. It looks like a modified coupe to me. All of the convert's I have done have the open car windshields in them. This one has what looks to be a closed car winshsield frame in it rather than the two separate glass sections with the thin stainless trim on the outside. The wipers for the convert are usually in the cowl as well, not the top of the header lie the earlier cars. (32-36). I have looked a three supposed '37 roadsters in the last few years, they all turned out to be modified cabriolets or fabbed up coupes.

From what I can (see in your second set of photos), there are no windshield wiper stanchions on the cowl which would indicate that it was a Coupe that has been modified, in my opinion.

Coupe with the top cut off. If it was a Cabriolet it wouldnt have a windshield frame

Re: What is it? Cabriolet or coupe with roof cut off?
In 37 the open car windshield is part of the body and they have a windshield frame that does not "crank out". The roadster looks like the cabriolet except there are no slots in the doors for roll up windows in the roadster. Cabriolets and roadsters had rumble seats. The car in the first picture has a trunk lid. It's a coupe with the top cut off.

It is still a mighty pretty little car.

FLEXI:Ive been told since 1969 the defining term for a "ROADSTER" is that it MUST have a REMOVABLE windshield (And not just the glass) not one that is affixed to the body

An exception to that defining term rule is a '37 Ford roadster. DD
