Default Where are they?

Just wondering where are the largest concentrations of model a ownership in the U.S.? Stock vehicles only. Seems some areas interest is less so than others.

I would "guess" that the salts, in the colder areas have taken a GREAT toll.
I've seen some HORRIBLE examples of that!!!
But even here, we have the Pacific Coast Salts, that are TOUGH on cars.

I find that interesting as most of the vendors are in the more eastern states...

Vern,

I think you need to be more specific. Many Model A people own more than one vehicle. Do you mean the the number of owners or the number of vehicles?

There are a lot of both A's and T's on the East coast, particularly the Northeast. Lots of active clubs, vendors, swap meets, etc. - Hershey...

I think more original barn finds come from cold storage areas :-)

The east and west coast. I live in Illinois and have many friends out east and the concentration of early Fords out there amazes me. Of course you have to look at population densities and that really answers your question. "Fly over" country is rural and there aren't as many early Fords.

Having lived in up-state New York and Connecticut I can tell you that there are Model A's and T's everywhere. All the barn cars have not been found yet. Plus the ones restored in the sixty's and seventy's that are no longer driven and are stored.

It would not surprise me if there is over ten percent of the orginal production run still in existence in one form or another.

Great little car. Enjoy.

The figure I have always heard bantered about is that there about 1 million that still exist.

Of course, what do I know, I only have one of them.

always thought the million mark was ridiculously high..............

but who knows how many were built in Russia, for example?

I would think closer to 300-400 thousand left...........

Vern, let me add something to your question. I have been going to Hershey since 1968. I saved all my programs from every year. In 1968 the program lists over 220 Model A, Fords on the show field. Last year there were about 10 Model A's in total. Where the heck are all of those cars? We need to get those cars back into circulation!

Wordie,

Where have all the Model A's gone? Gone to hot rods everyone. (Sung to the folk song "Where have all the flowers gone?")

That's why there are a lot of bumpers, fenders, running boards and splash aprons for sale on Craig's List and Swap meets. I bought some really nice chrome bumpers from a guy who said he got tired of the stock look and turned his restored roadster pick up into a hot rod.

You can see a ton of A hot rods at the National Hot Rod Show, the Los Angeles Roaster Show, and the Good Guys Car Show every year.

Define "stock" Glenn, because the majority of Model-As that I have seen from the Lone Star state seem to have 16" wheels, Overdrive transmissions, and Air Conditioners.

To me, Ohio and Michigan have always seemed to have quite a lot of nicely restored cars that show up at Tours & Meets. It also seems there have been a lot of nice original parts coming from hobbyists from those two states.

There's oodles of Model As in Argentina. MANY open cars & speedsters are a BIG DEAL! They even have MUD Races !
There are MANY "original" cars, with unusual colors. Did Henry do different colors for them???

That would be the greatest number of vehicles undergoing or eventually to undergo restoration. As previously stated vendor location could be an indicator but is that so?

I guess I would be looking for those who are buying parts to build them the way the came off the factory floor, or as close to that as finances would allow. I was perusing Craig's list one day and noticed there are areas of the country where no parts or cars ever seem to come into the market
