Ignition Key
Gentlemen:
The key to my Pop out switch looks quite old, is roughly in the shape of the instrument panel. I don't find any key number, but on one side of the key are the letters DD underscored with the letters CD under the underscored line. I looked in Les Andrews book but don't find anything about ignition keys. Can anyone tell me anything about the key & pop out switch. Your responses as always are much appreciated. Thom IV |

Re: Ignition Key
If you can find a number on the popout, you can order a new key cut from A&L in Conn. He has them and cuts to fit the number. Great people to deal with! Sorry, someone else might have their number.

Re: Ignition Key
ok, on the car ...312 plate... Thats my lottery pick 3 daily numbers ,,because i was born on 3-21..Ok got that out of the way...Now you have Standard top irons with Deluxe top and Chrome windshield frame .The keys all have A- ### or later A-#### .Early Ford keys had FORD on them. After that you will find A-### on one side and a letter "B" in a Dimond shape on the other side.Sounds like youhave replacement keys... A+L parts make a good copy of both early and late keys and he can number them, but "NOT for fine point judging. Another note might be a pop-out that was MADE IN SPAIN ?

Re: Ignition Key
Thanks for your input. I wondered if that pop out might have been manufactured in Spain. It has been replaced with an athentic pop out rebuilt by Howard Denker. The top is supposed to be a standard. At least a standard is what i ordered and paid for.
The top bows are standard. If I could ever find a deluxe top I probably would put it on. Thanks again for your input. Thom IV |

Re: Ignition Key
How tall is your winshield or stanchions? Deluxe is 13 inches and standard is 15 inches. In order to look right and fit right you would need to replace the windshield and stanchions to deluxe to make the deluxe top fit and look right. LeBarron Bonney i believe makes the whole top complete ,,top, top bows, chrome side bars and all but you need to replace the windshield and stanchions to switch over and A+L parts makes all that. But standards are rarer.

Re: Ignition Key
The windshield frame is 13 inches high in the center and 14 inches high on the end. The chrome stanchions are 12 and a quarter inches high. If it is a standard model,
which I believe it is, why are the windshield and stanchions chrome? Thank you for enlightening me about my car. Thom IV |

Re: Ignition Key
Thom , On standard roadsters the windshield frame is always painted [not chrome] .The stanchions are 15 inches tall [total] and is stainless steel [not chrome] .Chrome stanchions if 13 inches are chrome it could mean 2 things. 1 repro's or you are a lucky dude. Chrome steel orginial stanchions came on ONLY early Deluxe Phaetons [180A's] and are quite rare.Standard roadsters only came 1 way with a BLACK top too. Other then that enjoy the car and drive it just the way it is.

Peter:
Thanks so much for the information. I didn't know that. The stanchions are chome and look as if they're old and used. Not sure if they are repo's or not. I will try to post a close up photo of the windshield and stanchions. |

Re: Ignition Key
Any identifying marks on the body of the popout?

Re: Ignition Key
No, the only marks are on the key which I have described. It seems to be a functioning pop out switch. Continuity from the distributor contact to the red wire terminal when switch is on, none when the switch is off.
