Floor mat or carpet???
I need to dump the old carpet in my '29 Roadster. Did they come originally with rubber mats or did they come with carpet? I saw a rubber mat and there were some kind of fasteners. Not sure how they work. The old carpet has some of the old snaps left but they'd need to be replaced.
Mat or Carpet? Thanks.

Re: Floor mat or carpet???
Mat is original in a roadster. I cant imagine how a carpet would hold up in a few heavy rain storms over an 80 year period.
The mat should have holes punched in it to fit over the hollow studs that are installed at the upper edge at the firewall, and near the rear. |

Re: Floor mat or carpet???
Bill is correct. There should be 4 mat studs on the top of the slanted part of the floor area. There should be 4 more studs or maybe 6 (I can't remember) around the flat floor area. Like Bill said, there should be holes or slots in the rubber mat that allow the mat to slip over the studs. The studs keep the mat from sliding around.

Re: Floor mat or carpet???
Thank you both for your help. Mat is the way I'll go. Yes the carpet has been wet and so have the occupants. Maybe that's why the carpet has a big hole below the clutch pedal that catches my heel.
I knew the answer would be here.

Re: Floor mat or carpet???
The original rubber floor mats had reinforcement patches molded around each hole on the bottom side. This was to keep the hole from tearing. It would look something like a fabric reinforced hot patch molded to the mat. Too bad they aren't reproduced the same way.

Re: Floor mat or carpet???
So, my question is, what Model A's did come with carpet? My 30 Town Sedan, when I bought it 25 years ago, had some kind of jute carpet in the back seat and a rubber mat in the front. Both have since been replaced but I'm not sure what was right in the day.
