1947 COE Tire Size

What is the correct tire size for my 1947?
It is a 1 1/2 Ton 101 Inch Wheel Base.
Is it .700 x 20 or 7.5 x 20 Bias Ply. Looking for Firestones.

If they fit... you could go as large as 8.25 by 20...

The width of your rims will dictate appropriate tire sizes. The 8.25-20” would need a 6” rim, where the 7.00” and 7.50” tires could be appropriate for either the 4.33” or 5.00” rims. If you find your Budd numbers, on either the concave side flats of the center discs or on the rear rim lips opposite the valve stems, I can look them up to tell you what you have. Stu

stock tire was probably 6:50 x 20, with 7:00 x 20 the option. right now the 7:00 firestone tires from coker are on "back order" with no known production date--as according to their representative. I put 6:50's on my 41 158" wheelbase truck

I have a 1945 and a 1947 1.5ton truck, both take 7.50-20 tires on them. However, hen looking through the operator manual for those trucks, they show that 7.00-20 is the "original" tire size.
As far as the COE, I'm not sure. I would imagine the same as the regular cab trucks

This chart is in the 1946 Ford Truck Sales Handbook. Probably no different than the chart contained in the 1947 handbook. Stu

Which is why knowing the rim width, center disc offset, and factory dual rear wheel spacing spec is important. The Budd numbers allow me to look it up. Stu

The 1947 Ford Operators Manual for Heavy Duty Trucks states the following minimum tire sizes:

COE w/single speed rear axle:
7.00x20 front
7.50x20 rear

COE w/2-speed read axle:
7.50x20 front
8.25x20 rear

This is different from the regular cab trucks (also listed in same manual, I can provide if anyone needs the data). The reason for this is that the COE weight distribution was different as more weight is applied over the front wheels on a COE in both loaded and unloaded configurations.

I can't say that minimum tire size = original tire size as certain applications may have required different sizes. I figure the Ford manual data is the minimum safe size for these trucks to operate up to their rated gross weight.
