What is length of pop out switch
My 1930 A was giving me fits starting and running. Due to knowledge acquired hear on the BARN i found the pop out switch to be bad.
Took it out and tested it - bad. Acuired a N O S switch and installed it. It was at this pont i felt the switch assy was a little short in length. Thus the question " Are all pop out switch assy the same length?" I seem to have read that they come in two types. Sold back and removable back, the latter is the one I installed. It was real tight installing it. My eng. # is June 1930 and is registered as such. I would appreciate any info possible. Thanks |

Re: What is length of pop out switch
It depends if you have the oval or round speedometer, I think the round
takes the longer cable. Bob |

Re: What is length of pop out switch
28-29 pop out cables are shorter than the 30-31 the pop out switch is a little different from oval to round speedo.

Re: What is length of pop out switch
I have an early 30 PO switch fully restored to show show quality. Still in box. I was told that the early 30 is different from the later 30's. I have the oval speedometer. My car is a Feb 30.

Re: What is length of pop out switch
I measured my round speedometer ignition switch cable and it is 29 1/4"
from the end of the threads to where it enters the switch. Bob |

Re: What is length of pop out switch
Yes, as mentioned the round speedometer will use the longer cable with the popout with the removable rear cover. I'm not home, so I can't measure one right now.
Notice how the cable for this aftermarket ignition is pushed way over to the side on my engine head. This is because it's made to fit the longer one for the later A's. |

Re: What is length of pop out switch
Thanks Vince. I was thinking that's how it was, the later style (1930-1) cowl is the determining factor for the length of the cable.
Now, one more question to be sure on the switches, are ALL the non-removable rear cover switches the short cable, and are ALL removable rear steel cover switches the long cable? |

Re: What is length of pop out switch
Here are a couple pictures showing the lengths of 3 of my original cables. The top cable is the 1928 with the forged mounting lug. The middle cable is the 1929 with the steel separate bracket. The bottom one is the longest and fits the round speedometer.
They are 28 1/2", 29 1/2", and 30 1/2" to the end of the metal sleeve. |
