1930 Model A fordor side window Glass run kit Installation
Hi,
Can anyone help me with the replacement of my 1930 Model A Fordor Sedan door glass run kit? I am replacing the front and rear door glass runs. I never did this before. I removed the screws on the passenger door metal inside window trim thinking the trim would come out but it did not. I stopped there and put the screws back in. Thanks for any help. Wayne |

Look at the top of your doors. There should be a plate with screws that comes off. Remove those, lift the plate and everything goes out the top. You will also need to remove the inside door panel.

I just looked at the door and there is no plate with screws at the top. Just the metal inside frame.

If you are referring to the trim frame I think it needs to come out. If you have a Briggs the top may be nailed down-mine are.

You need to remove the trim, interior door panels and the metal plate the holds the regulators. I have pictures of my door, I'll dig them out. Mine are not nailed, just remmove the window trim screws and 'gently' pry them out. |

It is a Briggs. The metal frame has three screws on each side and four screws top and bottom. I removed them all but the frame would not budge. Is there a book showing in detail the door parts so I can understand what I am seeing? Maybe a ford model a service manual with a section on window removal? |

Here is a picture of my drivers door opened up. You need to remove the trim, then removed the door panel. next remove the metal plate holding the regulator. Then you can get to the glass and felts. The window trim should come out when the screws you mention in post#6 are removed. Gently pry it out as it is a tight fit.
I have some other pictures but this should give you an idea of what is in there. I thought I had all the pictures together but obviously not... I'll post them if/when I find them. |

Here is a picture of a rear door (not mine thankfully). Just to give you more to look at. The other pictures of my doors must be on my other computor. I will look in the morning.

Y-Blockhead - I don't see any pictures. Presumably you're using a hosting service rather than loading directly into Fordbarn as largely recommended(?).

Take all the screws out of the trim, push down and out on the trim, towards the inside of the car, it should pop out.
Take off the door panels, roll your window down, remove the top seal first. roll the window back up. On each side of the door, on the door frame you should see the side felt window channels, they are hooked on the bottom, pull or pry them from the door, if the hook remains on the felt channel rip it out, do this on both sides of the door. Roll the window back down, pull each side channel up and out of the door frame, once released from the door you can slide them up and out of the door. Now putting them back in is done in reverse, but there are a few tricks, we can cover that when you get to that point. Now go get those channels out and have fun...take your time, down break anything

Re: 1930 Model A fordor side window Glass run kit Installation
There is an article about installing window glass written by Richard M. Volkmer, on pages 14-18 in the current issue (September - October 2017) of "Model 'A' News", the publication of Model 'A' Restorers Club. It has text and photos as well as some helpful hints. His article was written about his 1929 Briggs, and your 1930 Briggs should be the same.

Re: 1930 Model A fordor side window Glass run kit Installation
Keith,
Just went out and got the frame out using a paint stick and rubber mallet. Gently taped the frame starting at the top and working around the sides. Did not bend anything. I then removed the door hardware and removed the panel. Once out I was able to get the old sashes out. I saved the top sash and cut the rubber to the same size. Wayne |

Don,
Can you send me that article? I am not a member since I only acquired the car in last three months. Wayne |
