MARC National had only five cars in fine point judging..MAFCA had around twenty.Takes a special breed to devote the time and effort, then allow a judge to score your work.

Congratulations to all the vehicles (and their owners) that were in the fine point judging. Just wish that I could have been there to see all those incredible Model A's.

Doug, you continue to outdo yourself which sets the bar higher and higher for all of us.

Barbara Jo, it is always a treat to see what your next project will be. The Town Car Delivery is outrageous and adds to your stable of top A's.

Ron, I'm so proud of you. For a guy older than the Sierra Mountains, you made all the early "A" crowd folks proud with your wonderful railroad truck.

Arlyn, be forewarned that if you ever leave your keys in the ignition of that beautiful car, I will steal it and bring it to Montana where it belongs. :-0

Again, congratulations to all the vehicles and their owners.

Neat cars. That last picture of the '28 Tudor with 19" wheels kinda throws you, for being a Fine Point car though.

Neat thanks for posting them.

The 29 open cab pickup with the whitewalls scored a 407 fine point...and is driven regularly.

The last picture of the 28 Tudor was not a judged car, it was parked at the end of the upper parking area when the judged cars were open for viewing. He was leaving the upper level to park in a different parking lot.

I am not quite sure what you are asking, but I think that you are asking how cars are judged.

At a MARC or MAFCA meet that has Vehicle Judging, Model A’s are judged against the Restoration Guidelines and Judging Standards. They are not judged one Model A against another. In Reno the Judges used the 1997 Guidelines. (The new 2011 Guidelines will be used at the next National Meet. This gives a restorer time to update his Model A,) If a person were to restore a Model A according to the Guidelines, his Model A would technically look like it did when it came off the assembly line.

In Vehicle Judging each vehicle starts out with 500 points and if it does not have the correct details for its year and month, it will lose points. There are 23 areas in the guidelines and they were assigned to about 12 teams of Judges. A Judging team will probably have 1 or 2 Areas to judge. Each Judging team judges the same Areas for all the cars in the Vehicle Judging. Each Area is given a certain number points (such as Area 10-Glass and Side Curtains is worth 10 points).

After all teams are done judging, the Area sheets are tallied for that vehicle and that is the overall score is arrived at.

I hope that this answers your question.

Sorta answers. I guess what I am asking is for examples of why cars had points deducted from the 500?

Because they used a reproduction ammeter.

Because they used a ‘31 part on a ‘28.

Because they had an alternator instead of a generator.

Because a bolt was raven finished when it should have been unfinished.

Because there was a run in the paint on a splash apron.

Literally thousands of reasons why points are earned/lost.

Let's not take it LIGHTLY, when we think of making a Model A back to "SHOWROOM" condition!!!---It takes a lots of SWEAT/DEDICATION/SKILLS/MONEY, and the list could go ON & ON & ON!!!---Even with the average, nice car, you feel that you're NEVER REALLY DONE!!!---Sorta' like tryin' to "RESTORE" my DECREPID, OLD body, to "SHOWROOM" condition!!!---LOL & LOL & LOL!!!
