Default Rust on cylinder head studs

Is there any significance if there is surface rust appearing on some but not all of the cylinder head studs? Does it imply the studs were not sealed correctly or if the head was not installed correctly? I am mostly referring to the studs between cylinders 1 & 2 and the studs between cylinders 3 and 4.
Just wondering if there is any importance to this.

Hey Bud,
Hard to say what the condition of the studs was ...when first installed. I've seen guys install stuff with surface rust and worse onto an engine. If you are talking the lower end of stud, where it screws into block, I'd take the stud out and use a pencil/whatever to check if the BOTTOM of stud hole was punched out by someone. If punched thru to water jacket, you will have rusted conditions....if not installed with permatex or some sealant. In fact, the water will seep up stud and rust top of block in area, until gasket can not hold anymore. ALWAYS check to see if bottom of stud hole is thru to water jacket, and it so, seal it up !
