Default Mind Your Own Business Coupes

According to reference materials I have, Ford Motor Company did not produce any car called a "Business Coupe" or a "Business Man's Coupe" during the 1937, 1938 and 1939 model years (I won a $50 bet over this issue).

I know that there was a 1940 Business Coupe (with jump seats), which is called by some -- but not Ford-- an "Opera Coupe."

It seems that some folks call any 5 window 3-passenger coupe a "Business Coupe".

Besides 1940, what years did Ford have an actual Business Coupe?

Thanks

There is a 1928 - 29 Model A that Ford called a Business Coupe. It has a non-folding cloth top. After February 29, it has oval quarter windows - before that, the quarters are blind.

AFAIK, there are no Business Coupes 32 - 39. I think there are some post-WWII but I'm not well-versed on pre-28 or post-40. I always thought it odd that the 40 with auxiliary seats (the official Ford term) is the Business Coupe while without the seats it's just Coupe. Seems to me cargo space would be more useful than passenger space in a car used for business.

In the sales brochures Ford calls the 1947 and 1948 3 passenger coupes as a "business coupe". To my knowledge Ford did not refer to the 1946 as a "business coupe.

My V8 Album book shows business coupes from 1947 through 1953 and stops with the 1953 models. It also shows the 1940 business coupe but not 1941, strange seems to me.

Original brochures show a Business Coupe in 1954 – course that’s not in the flathead era. There is a Business Sedan in 1955 and 56. After that, the Business model appears to have been dropped.

The 41 brochure mentions the Coupe could be had with or without auxiliary seats but neither version is called Business. The Sedan Coupe with bench rear seat was introduced that year. Those models appear to continue in 42 and 46, although neither mentions auxiliary seats in the Coupe. If one wanted a coupe with rear seat, I guess they bought a Sedan Coupe.

I had a 1954 Ford business cp. years ago. Seems I remember, It had a shorter roof then
the 2 dr sedans did. It had non opening rear side windows.
I put a rear seat assembly in it from a sedan, for the kids to sit.
I still have the big painted tin platform that was bolted into the rear seat area.

I've always referred to our 1946 coupe as a 3 passenger coupe. Others have called it a business coupe. I stick with the "3 passenger coupe".

Is your car a "DeLuxe" or a "Custom" (side trim)? Does it have a rear seat or a platform? Business coupes had fixed rear windows. Club coupes had swing-out rear windows and a rear seat. Does it have rear ash trays and a passenger inside sun visor?

My 42 has fixed rear windows and the back has shelf that extends from the back of seat to the rear window ending about 6 in. below. The back of the front seat tilts forward after releasing 2 pins so as to access the rear.

My 41 Business coupe has fixed windows and the back of the front seat lifts up from the bottom exposing the storage area under the shelf that runs from the front seat to the rear window. There is no place for jump seats in the storage area. Al

I have seen a 57 business coupe. No rear seat. Had like a flat deck, fixed quarter windows and a 223 six. Probably for telephone company or vacuum cleaner salesman. That's about the newest I recall seeing.
