Sounds like a bad Neg. Cable. They do corrode internally. Make sure the cables are 6 volt not 12 volt cables.

I ordered cables from this site...

https://www.batterycablesusa.com/?ms...20Cables%20USA

1/0 Gauge Battery Cables (0 AWG)
1/0 GAUGE BATTERY CABLES (0 AWG)

Awesome site. Thanks for the link. Bookmarks to my "Model A Catalogs".

I wish more would add links when referring to something or someplace. Saves the search.

Clean block and starter where they meet and run your ground to the block

Thanks to everyone’s advice. Got the A running again. Not sure the exact issue but here is what I did.
Took batter out and had it tested. Check out OK. Placed it
On charger overnight and next day took cleaned all wire connections, mainly the ground. From the body connection to the transmission connection. Steel wire brush and cleaner on both ends.
Placed the battery back in and connected it all back together. Started immediately.

So appears to have been a bad ground, scary part is None of the connections were loose. And none of the connections were dirty at least in my opinion not bad enough to cause issues. Who would have known.

Now next up nasty exhaust leak that keeps coming back to haunt me.

Thanks again!

If it was indeed the ground that has been my problem many times. I finally put an extra ground on and changed the ground cable to ( double ought ) 00 welding cable. Wayne .

A while back, I had a similar problem with my 1965 Mustang. The battery cables appeared tight, but the car would not start. An hour earlier, I had just driven the car about 80 miles on a warm day. Apparently, the road vibration shook the cable connections slightly loose enough for the car to refuse to turn over. I removed the cables from the battery, reinstalled them, tightened them down, and the car started right up.

Great job AA for sticking with it.

You are now an official expert on non starting A's.

Good going. I always put di-electric grease on connections and bulbs to prevent corrosion and moisture.

I will second the comment by Y-blockhead. I also use the dielectric grease on all contacts.
