Gas Pedal Assembly

I'm trying to disassemble the gas pedal assembly so that I can replace the spring. I thought that you had to slip everything off the end (red arrow in photo), but even after grinding smooth and using a drift and hammer, only everything else is coming loose. Am I going about this the wrong way, or is it just exceptionally stubborn?

Did you did knock the pin out? Didn't see mention of it.

Rich, are you talking about a pin through the shaft? I just went out and looked and don't see any indication of one.

You do not have to take anything lose to replace the spring, just slide it off of the end. No spring on the end with the arrow. At least that is so with the 35 PU pedal which is very similar to your picture.

Lawson is right. Slip the spring off the shaft that goes through the firewall. The real challenge comes when you go back with the assemble. You will have to twist the spring around the shaft about 3/4 turn to get the tension correct. Charles

Guess I wasn't thinking so much about the spring replacement part; I found they were pinned, when I taken them apart in the past to get the parts plated.

Have some safety glasses on. You need to be stronger than the spring.

Thanks to all for the information. I still can't find the pin, even after heat and light filing. There's no bump like in Rich's pic. May have to do without taking it apart - rather that than ruin it. Mostly wanted to clean it out and paint it. Sliding that spring should be interesting. Thanks again.

Just an update. I went out and hit the part where Rich's pic showed the bump, and out came the pin! Never would have found it without your help. Thanks.
