32 truck door rattle.
I have new rubber bumpers, dovetails etc.. Doors fit and close nicely. hinges and pins are tight. Everything is fine until I get on a bumpy road, and then they rattle. Not too bad, but enough to make you pay attention. Is this just something I have to live with? Thanks.

Re: 32 truck door rattle.
No there tight, it's the doors themselves. Thanks.

Re: 32 truck door rattle.
Are the strikers adjustable? The reason why I'm asking is because the one screw does not want to move and before I get into drilling etc. I want to make sure it's adjustable and worth the trouble. Again, the doors work fine and everything is nice and tight, but I think if I can move the strikers in just a tad, that may solve the problem. Thanks.

Re: 32 truck door rattle.
Before you start drilling, you can use your favorite penetratring oil on the threads of the striker screws behind the B pillar. If you get the doors to quit rattling, please let me know. I believe the problem is that the cabs are weak and go trapezoidal front to back when stressed making the door fit change with road conditions. Good luck!

Just be glad you don't live in S Carolina, all the roads are bumpy, you would most likely go crazy.

My 53 F100 driver side door rattles also. I guess Hank the Duece didn't fix that in the later pickups either.

Re: 32 truck door rattle.
Sonny,
You might want to take a good look at the door latches as they sometimes wear (from the door rattling) and make the door loose(r). I had to have mine welded and reshaped. The striker plate screws are Henry's favorite, the 12-24 that can likely be found in your local hardware, even in brass. Now I'm going into dangerous territory and breaking one of the rules, namely "DON'T PULL ON SUPERMAN'S CAPE". The striker plates are adjustable on the closed cab. The screws go into a floating plate that is in a captive device behind the B pillar. |

Re: 32 truck door rattle.
That did it. Drilled out the screws and adjusted. yes it does have a floating plate. Doesn't rattle any more. Thanks again.
