Default Hood Prop Kits

Looking for thoughts on good ways to prop the hoods open.
I see a couple of kits offered in the Mac's catalog. Two different approaches.
Are there others that I might be looking at?
Thanks
burt

You can certainly consider doing what millions of Model A drivers have done - just prop the hood up on the cowl. This method is the least hassle, and the most used. This method has met the requirements of Model A owners for over 85 years. And besides the cost being nominal ( zero ) it is an authentic and historic demonstration of practical simplicity - one that was used on all marques from the inception of the automobile in the 1890's to the 1950's.

I have the same one...
Doesnt stick out like a sore thumb
Doesn't rattle
Clean and easy install

I would not reccomend just propping the hood on the cowl with no holding device.
Wind can blow it off onto the fender..

My favorite is the Hood Prop by Vintique. It is well made of stainless steel with a polished finish. The Hood Prop comes with two different length arms to provide an adjustment of the prop position. I use the short arms on both of my 1931 Model As.

The Vintique Hood Prop is very easy to install onto the radiator support rods. My preference is to locate the Hood Prop over the No. 3 spark plug.

For what it's worth, I also use the Vintique product and it's very easy to install, doesn't rattle and does not stand out like a sore thumb and it's easy to remove if you want to show the car and want to maintain originality.

Aok and Mitch...Ditto, I use the same one, works good, prices was right.

30coupeguy, read Mitch's reply, I think he covered all the bases.

Simple...is usually the most effective

Why were these not standard equipment?

Hi Coupe Guy,
I bent some coated coat hanger wires in a S shape which hooks over the radiator bars, under the hood and over the hood handles.

cost and unnecessary - hard to make an affordable car when you start adding gizmos that slow production and cost money

FYI, original radiator upper tanks had tabs for holding your hood up! They work very well on mine! (Although the original '29 core left a little to be desired in Texas summers).

Only the 28-29 radiators had the hood prop tabs.

Interesting, never seen one.
By chance would you have a pic for us to see?

Here's my 1928 original radiator, but 29 would have the same hook.

My 1928 Tudor has these hooks. I use them a lot at shows. Especially when parked next to a modern V8 with all the chrome and hood open. I love the comments from the public.

When I show my cars, they always have the hood and doors open. Kids of all ages are encouraged to look and TOUCH!

I would love to have a dollar for every kid that has been photographed in one of my vehicles. Maybe this would be a good way to raise money for my favourite charity.
