My American Car Encyclopedia shows a total of 75,000 '39 Mercury's made. It doesn't have the numbers for each model though.
Compare it to the '39 Ford with about 28,000 4 door sedans.

When you see them for sale, it seems like almost all are 4 doors sometimes a coupe. Did they make a 2 door sedan?

They also made a 2 door and a convertible coupe in 1939.

The V-8 Album shows that 17,193 1939 (Fordor) Mercury Town Sedans,
Model-99A-73 were built. More 4 doors were produced than any other 39 Mercury car.

7,970 Sedan Coupes were produced. Model 99A-70
6,560 Tudor Sedans Model 99A-70 were produced.
7,970 Convertibles ( 2 door) were produced.

Seems odd that the same number of Sedan Coupes and convertibles is the same.
If you want to buy a copy here's a very good buy.

What body number is yours? Ours is #1808, the glass "bug" in ours is 10/38, and has the Ford-Mercury hub caps PLUS several early items different from later produced cars. We also have a 39 Mercury coupe which was 12/38 production (or there about) and a 1940 4 door Convertible Sedan. Yes Mercury specific parts for BOTH can be tough to impossible.

The '39 (and '40) Mercury Convertible Sedan was probably the rarest model...roughly only 980 were built.

Ahh the illusive ford/mercury cap. In my opinion the rarest of rare in terms of hubcaps

Not that I want to get off subject but what is a running 39 Mercury worth ? I have a chance to buy one running and driving and it comes with a parts car which in my opinion is pretty worn!

I have a 39 Ford-Mercury hubcap.
The stainless is good - the steel outer cap is poor but I have a 39 Mercury hubcap to go with it.
Find me a pair of 37/38/39 standard original pattern running board rubber covers in usable condition and it's yours.

Michael, THIS is the "SUPER Rare" Ford-Mercury hub cap......Didn't know this one existed till Treavor sent pictures....then......I just missed this "ONE" a couple of weeks ago on EPay. More "rare" than our Ford-Mercury cap. ALSO there was a post several months back on the subject of the "Rarest" hub cap IF anyone cares to go looking.
