Default Use of avgas?

Reading about using avgas in our cars got me to researching this topic. Back in the '50's and '60's there were a lot of wild stories about the mythical results of using avgas. Most, if not all, need to be taken with a large shaker of salt. Here's a link to some good info on what avgas really is (your daily dose of technical stuff!):

Hope you enjoy!

I am a pilot with a small airplane. Avgas is about $6/gal here! Many guys use auto gas in their modern engine airplanes with no reported issues. Others say autogas will vapor lock on hot days.

In the 70's I tried av gas in my 427 dirt car. 10.5 compression. Never saw much difference from race gas, super shell, av gas. I suppose a drag strip or asphalt track would have been a better gauge. Mark
