The recent vaporizer thread reminds me of some questions I have about practical use of that set up. I have heard that they weren't particularly user friendly or powerful or economical. What is the real truth about using one? Also, once warmed up, will the hot plate chill or have inadequate surface to vaporize a big volume of fuel with wide throttle usage? Will cold air mixing with the vapor re-condense it back into unevenly dispersed droplets? I'd like to try mine, restored by my dad, Bob Huseby, but some advice from those experienced with them would give me a jump start.

Well they did work but the reason I've found for the change was the quality of fuel in that era which doesn't apply today. Supposedly there is a power loss. Don't know if it's noticeable though. My only experience with them is when I changed my '27 from Vap. to NH. The core wasn't good and that's still a requirement for exchanging it for a rebuilt from the parts houses. I figured: 1, it's complicated. 2, there aren't many of them. 3, there's only used ones out there and 4, that less power business. Bottom line for me was there's more carbs and new parts available for them so I switched. I never drove the car in extreme cold so I can't answer that question. Also there are changes in the linkage. How much of that stuff do you have?

The vaporizer came with the car and I kept it when I built the speedster because it's a neat conversation item. No sides on the hood so it's visible. Seems to run OK.
