No wife whose husband died 2 months ago begins an add with "Hey,"--unless she had something to do with his demise. :-)

It surprised me that they're using the name of a real auto museum, which could bring legal action against the seller , if he could be found.
I think the FBI probably has a big stack of these sort of things.

I saw I nice Model A on Ebay. One picture showed the car with a cornfield in the background. i drove to see the car. About 3 days later, I saw the same picture on a Model A's for sale website. It had moved to a different city with different contact information, and the price was a steal.

I did reply and then got the rambling husband died, me and son moving, I will use ebay so we are both safe, EMAIL. ETC. How did they get all these "A"'s and "T"s', to Nigeria? Go figure.

Just last week I responded to an add for a 1941 Cadillac fleetwood in really good condition, that was listed in our local craigslist. I did think the asking price was a bit low but decided to send e-mail and go look at car. I too got the response to; send me your e-mail address and i will contact you later with more pictures of car. I reply with; I already sent you my e-mail when I responded to the add, for more pic's and location to view car in person.. they never got back to me so i flagged the add on craigslist

Too good to be true? Another super deal on Craig's list. 1929 Tudor. Same $6,000 price tag. Find at: https://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/d...419291559.html

This is an easy one. An older lady would never say or write "Me and my son". She would phrase it "My son and I" which would be the correct grammar!

I have a set of Mustang wheels on Craigslist right now. As always, when I put something up there, I get a rash of emails and texts all worded about the same:

"Hello...I'm interested in the said price of the item ( ) and would you accept a check as payment once it clears your bank then I will have someone to pick up?"

Another:

"I'm interested, Can I send a cashiers check for the sale, Once check clears and you have your cash I will arrange pickup."

Obviously scamma lamma ding dongs. But how does this scam work? If the check clears, it clears, so how do they rip anyone off? Do they beg to take the goods before it clears?

The thing is with cashiers checks, how long are you going to wait till you know that the check is really good? A week, a month, 6 weeks. I have heard that sometimes it takes a LONG time before they find out that the check is counterfeit.

From Craigslist:

Avoiding Scams

Deal locally, face-to-face —follow this one rule and avoid 99% of scam attempts.
  • Do not extend payment to anyone you have not met in person.
  • Beware offers involving shipping - deal with locals you can meet in person.
  • Never wire funds (e.g. Western Union) - anyone who asks you to is a scammer.
  • Don't accept cashier/certified checks or money orders - banks cash fakes, then hold you responsible.
  • Transactions are between users only, no third party provides a "guarantee".
  • Never give out financial info (bank account, social security, paypal account, etc).
  • Do not rent or purchase sight-unseen—that amazing "deal" may not exist.
  • Refuse background/credit checks until you have met landlord/employer in person.

Answer: Forgeries. I suppose that was predictable.

In our area for safety's sake, local police and fire departments recommend completing the transaction at their headquarters. Also scares most scammers off.

Most people confuse when cash is available to you in your account with when the funds can be pulled back. People deposit the item, then see the cash in their account and send the item a week later it bounces. These almost always end up with them sending too much money to cover shipping and postage and asking you to send the excess back. They are usually a lot more interested in playing the cash game than actually getting your parts.
