Joblot Automotive Going Out Of Business
A friend of mine called them looking for clutch/brake shaft bushings and found out that they were no longer being made. Joblot was the maker. They are selling out of everything and going out of business, due to death of one owner and another wants out. I guess they supplied others with parts (Macs). Too bad. They have been around a long time and had good service. I don't know what other parts they had made.

Re: Joblot Automotive Going Out Of Business
It's been in the works for some time now. It's really a shame still, it's been a great company to deal with through the years!
Someone had mentioned it up here "way back" but most "fluffed" it off. Thanks, Gary in N.Y. P.S. The original owner (Hal) passed away I believe earlier this year. This is usually the outcome when partners "split", for whatever reasons, family's are involved, and the business is "smaller" with an ever present shrinking market!!

I've done business with them since the late 70's. James was always a great help in recent years. Sad news.

Re: Joblot Automotive Going Out Of Business
The story is that of the two partners, one was the money guy and the other was the business guy. The business guy died.
I just hope the inventory doesn't get broken up and scattered to the wind. |

Re: Joblot Automotive Going Out Of Business
Sad to see another old time institution go out of business. I went there in the mid 70's to get stuff for my 57 Ford. Too bad James couldn't take it over.

Re: Joblot Automotive Going Out Of Business
In the early '70's when I was in seminary in NJ I would go in on the rare Saturdays when I had some money...they decided that I was a familiar face and let me come past the little counter and go digging in the warehouse. I could dig through a 55 gallon drum of Argentina distributor caps and pull out an NOS Ford one from the bottom, crawl up shelves like ladders and explore the almost forgotten parts in the dust on top, marvel at the rebuilt engines I couldn't afford, and nearly always I could find some neat NOS piece way beyond my shopping list of gaskets and tune up parts.
USA NOS parts were becoming too scarce to support the business, and Joblot's presumed armies of spies were roaming the earth buying up WWII era military stocks. There were TONS of Canadian military parts coming back from warehouses all over the empire, rows of Ford England Bren carrier engines (1937 Ford type), German labeled stuff from both German and Swiss army stocks, cool stuff by the trainload. Very pleasant people, I knew James with his '49 Plymouth outside and the two owner guys. Best playground I ever had! |

Re: Joblot Automotive Going Out Of Business
Just bough the remaining supplies they had of some of the parts I use in my T5 kit. Don't know what I'll do when they're gone. No one else will sell in volume at the prices they charged. Always helpful, friendly and prompt shippers. They'll be missed.

Re: Joblot Automotive Going Out Of Business
I ordered an F-1 worm for the steering box in my AV8 and a gasket set today but James did not have the sector roller and pin kit and would not be able to furnish it. So I guess they're selling off inventory at least as of today. Same speedy, courteous, knowledgeable service as always. I did not ask, nor feel it was my place to, about overall status of the business. This is such a shame. James has been such a big help to me over the years.

Re: Joblot Automotive Going Out Of Business
Sorry to hear that. I did run into a small scale source for Ford parts at Hershey that many of you probably know of, but I hadn't heard mentioned before hear. Third Gen Auto in Minneville TN. Got an NOS '40 p/up steering column mast jacket from them. Job Lot, Spadarro & Tracy Brown will never be replaced, but we still have Fred Wilner, Southside Obsolete, in MN, Ray Helgers, Rays Antique Parts in RI & Then & Now Automotive in Weymouth MA, thank goodness. Those parts have to go someplace.

Re: Joblot Automotive Going Out Of Business
I sent an inquiry for parts Tuesday at 1:15. James responded at 3:45 and apologized for the "slow reply"!
I placed the order at 4:45. James confirmed the order 9:00 am Wednesday and said it would "go out today". It was at my door this morning (Thursday) at 9:45 am. I asked about them winding down and this was his response: Fred You're are welcome and it's my pleasure. Yes, the rumors are true. After the passing of one of our Bosses in January, the decision was made to try and sell the business. At this time, it seems very unlikely that the business will be purchased as a whole, and most likely the remaining inventory will be sold off, the building will be sold, and Joblot will be gone for good. It is a shame, but all good things must come to an end.........Time for a changing of the guard I guess. We shall see what the future brings Thank you for your interest and support. It has been guys such as yourself that kept these doors open for so many years, and for that we are all grateful Be well James Saccoccio Joblot Automotive, Inc 98-11 211th Street Queens Village, NY 11429 718-468-8585 800-221-0172 718-468-8686 (FAX) www.joblotauto.com |

Re: Joblot Automotive Going Out Of Business
I'm sorry that I'm late to find this thread and to learn that Joblot and James are truly no longer around. I entered the realm of the early flathead Ford only recently, unlike many who have been there forever. It was June, 2014 that I took delivery on my ’38 Tonner and began a total mechanical, frame and body restoration. I was quickly pointed in the direction of Joblot and James. He was a tremendous help in identifying and locating many difficult to find quality parts. James always went out of his way and made you feel like you were the only customer he had to deal with. I feel that my success in the stock restoration of my Tonner is at least in part due to James. He got me on the right track and kept me moving that way.

I too am similar to Revenski, in having found James just great to deal with. I too am glad he is continuing in the game. He told me he will be on a small scale to start with.
I wish him success in his new venture and will in my small way, try to support him. |

Re: Joblot Automotive Going Out Of Business
I just saw this post and was worried also. James has been very helpful and AFFORDABLE for guys like me with limited income who also happen to like the big old trucks too. He has a lot parts for the big trucks and is very knowledgeable. Again the prices were very fair and the parts of good value.
For big truck parts he was and is the best, if some or all of the business were to be sold prices would surely jump making things more difficult for the average buyer. I hope this turns out for the best. |

It is always Sad to see the end of established businesses. Sad about the death, of the owner. Enjoy your cars, and remember nothing lasts forever.
As time passes, parts and sources will be harder to find, especially if the demand goes down. |

He said 90% of the inventory is now gone. Much of it was sold to small dealers they have done business with in the past. No one has made an offer on their suppliers list yet, hopefully those that have made the "odd stuff" won't follow Joblot's demise. lynn |
