Talking Ohio covered bridge

I took advantage of one of the last nice days up here in Michigan. A little trip over the border into Ohio to the Lockport Covered Bridge.
There was a wedding party there at the same time for some pictures.
Other shots are those great north-west Ohio roads. So flat, you can see the back of your own head.

Wish we had some covered bridges in our area, but the only ones I know of are in Indiana and east.

I went for a 150 miles drive today to look for old neglected barns, but didn't have any luck.

A great place for "Covered Bridge" lovers, is central Oregon. Somewhere in the Willamette Valley, north of Eugene, Oregon, there is one town that has thirteen or more Covered Bridges (mostly from the 1900 - 1935 period) within 20 miles. Central Oregon has scores of Covered Bridges. I think our Ford Barn forum guys from Central Oregon can update with more accurate facts and figures.

I think Clint Eastwood made a movie there with Myrel (Sp?) Streep - called "Bridges of Willamette Valley" . . . . . Well, it makes for a good story anyway. I suppose I will hear from all you guys who live in Madison County. . . .

Luckily my town of Eureka, Calif has three covered bridges within 7 miles of town. All in bucolic pastoral settings, they do made a fine back drop for a photo-shoot of our Model A's in 'action' in a historic setting.

We still have 54 Covered Bridges in NH. Most of them are registered as "Historic Places" and protected. I have organized Motorcycle Tours that tour them, and cross all that can be crossed. We lost one (Turkey Jim Bridge over Branch Brook), and a few were damaged due to Irene. The Blair Bridge was damaged enough to be closed. I was up to the Blair Bridge over the Pemigewasset River yesterday, and it looks to be re-opened soon. There is probably no hope for the Turkey Jim Bridge, unless Private Funds are obtained. It was not old enough to be registered as a Historic Place, so it does not qualify for Federal or State funds, and was originally built to provide access to a single Farm, It has been on the private property of a Campground for years, for foot traffic and winter snowmobile use only. It has been replaced by an open bridge that was built to receive the covered bridge if they can restore the salvaged timbers.

New Brunswick, Canada, has lots of covered bridges.

I don't have a website for abandoned barns, but there are plenty of them as well.

Quite a few left in MN, not all these on the list are car bridges though.

Check out the covered bridges in Geauga and Ashtabula County in Ohio. We went through at lest 14 in one day. This is about half of them I'm told. Would have done more but there was a few winery stops too many.

Actually Central Oregon only has one. But the Willamette Valley is chock full of them.
