fan belt size
I tried to adjust the charging rate of the generator on my '30 town sedan. It seems that the generator is so tight to the block that I can't get the cover band off. Does this seem to say that my belt is too small? What size belt can I buy locally to fix my problem? We have all the supply stores, NAPA, Autozone, Advance, O'reilly, you name it. Don't know what to ask for.

Re: fan belt size
When I had a powerhouse generator on my car, the only way I could get the belt off was to remove the generator mounting bolt.

Re: fan belt size
Gene, the generator on my car is not a powerhouse, but I can see that you might have to remove the unit to take off the belt. Isn't the powerhouse bigger around than mine?
Thanks Ray, Now that I know where to buy a bigger belt, maybe I'll take mine off and go to NAPA and ask for one a little larger. Will an inch bigger make enough difference? Marty |

Re: fan belt size
You don't have to take off the entire generator to remove the belt. Just unbolt the generator pulley after loosening belt tension. It pops right off and back on. Makes belt swaps easy.

I agree with Mike on the pulley removal. This is how I change my belt.

Re: fan belt size
Just thought I'd let y'all know how is fixed my problem. I went to NAPA and that knew what I needed by didn't have the belt. I ordered it to be in next week. I got home and had a brain jolt. Looked under the front seat and there was a brand new spare belt, but a little longer. I put it on, adjusted the third brush and am now ready to go.

Yes, Ray. Freddie is a great guy, but unfortunately he went to the dark side. He sold his A and bought a Chevy.
