32 Window regulator rebuild ???
One of my 32 sedan rear window regulators is stripped
Are any of the kits on the market any better than others? How hard or easy are they to do?? Thanks! |

Re: 32 Window regulator rebuild ???
I didn't rebuild the regulators in my 5 window because they were so bad. I used new United Pacific regulators and they work great. Rebuilding would have of course been cheaper but it wasn't an option.

Re: 32 Window regulator rebuild ???
Some of the original regulators had a zinc die cast gear on the other end of the handle shank which are failure prone with age. Replacing them is relatively easy if you can find one of the aftermarket kits for rebuilding as they (the NORS versions) usually have a steel gear. I've no experience with any currently-manufactured rebuilding kits.

Re: 32 Window regulator rebuild ???
Thanks for the response. The rear window regs are three bolt, apparently like Model A and pickup.

Re: 32 Window regulator rebuild ???
The 1932 tudor quarter window regulator is similar to the 1926-31 Coupe/Tudor/Pickup EXCEPT the end and the arm length are different. The model A will not fit the 1932 glass bottom channel.
My experience is that there are at least three different variations of regulators, whether different OEM suppliers or period aftermarket I do not know. Type one and two have a "beehive" housing over the handle pinion/clutch, type three has a "tuna can". The difference between the type one and type two is the depth and diameter of the pinion bearing on the regulator main plate. The rebuild kits will work well with the type one and type two regulators (someone cleverly designed a lower bearing that can be flipped over to be used between the two types. There are no parts available for type three that I know of. Another option is to salvage the end of of an original regulator (or any 1932-39 closed car regulator), then use a reproduction model A regulator, and replace the end. Note the reproduction model A regulators will need some inspection and tweaking before they are ready to install in the car. The standoff screw mount spacers may need to be modified for the correct spacing also. Note: The 1932-34 Pickup regulator is different from the 1932 tudor quarter in the arm length and that the pickup handle uses a set screw in the middle of the handle and the car side windows use pins. |

Re: 32 Window regulator rebuild ???
Lots of '32 Tudor quarter window regulators around; they show up regularly on ebay.

Re: 32 Window regulator rebuild ???
Is the tooth count 6 or 10, in case I decide to rebuild it? Don't want to tear it apart until I have the parts.
Thanks! |

Re: 32 Window regulator rebuild ???
That looks to be the "tuna can" pinion housing. The repro pinion/shaft kits do not work with that type of regulator.
